BANGKOK: -- In the effort to assist rubber planters, the government is moving to introduce several measures to stabilise rubber price at 70 baht per kilogram.

At the cabinet meeting yesterday, four measures to stabilise rubber prices with a final goal of raising and maintaining rubber prices at 70 baht a kilogram were agreed.

The first of these is allowing a 3 year extension period for loan allocations of 10 billion baht from the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to allow agricultural institutions to stock 1.15 million tons of rubber.

We are the government and we are here to help you.

A cautionary note to farmers and exciting news for the middle men. This should be predictably similar to the never ending rice schemes.

We can give you anything you want because we have immunity; unlike the stupid dumbasses before us who weren't cunning enough to think of that. Serves them right that we can now prosecute them in the courts.

Rubber prices appear to be slumping since highs in the beginning of the year.

If this slump is seasonal, the price should average out at about 70 baht per kg for the year. In which case a subsidy supporting 70 baht per kg is not only premature but wasteful.
