PHUKET: -- Three people died and several more injured after a pickup truck struck a van carrying China Airlines crew, including pilots, and overturned on Thepkrasattri Rd in Thalang early yesterday morning (June 18), and was then struck by a big bike travelling at high speed.

Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop of Thalang Police was notified of the accidents, on Thepkrasattri Rd northbound, at 2am.

Capt Kraisorn arrived at the scene with rescue teams and medical staff from Thalang Hospital to find a white Trang-registered van by the side of the road, with a white Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck overturned 150 metres away partially blocking the inside northbound lane.

" While passers-by were rendering assistance to those still in the overturned pickup truck, the Suzuki motorbike approached at high speed and ploughed into the pickup, hitting several of the people rendering assistance."

RIP.

Would be very interesting to know why the pick up truck ran into the van's rear at high speed...

Another 2.00 am crash. Likely fatigued driver, might also be alcohol involved. Interesting how light the damage was to the minibus, just a glancing blow to the left quarter. Think there is more to this accident than pick-up running straight into back of minibus.Maybe he was trying an under take pass.

Agree.

Those ID cards, is that really necessary?

They have just found out that it is safer up in the air...

No, really bad taste. I suppose the BiB allowed the press to copy the IDs.

Driver on phone, asleep, pissed out of his brain, on YaBa, brakes failed, didn't see the pickup................!  The list is endless.  We'll probably never know; usual scenario.

I'm happy to hear the air crew is safe, we need you up there, at least you have many years of education to become pilots unlike a Thai pick up driver from the rice fields.
