CHIANG MAI: -- A man from the hills of Chiang Mai may not have been formally educated but he has come up with an imaginative idea to save time and money.

Sommai Wattanametha, 27, has adapted the back wheel of a motorbike so that it can haul up lettuce from a patch that he farms with his brother in law.

What used to take workers 15 minutes is now achieved in just 30 seconds. And there is no need to pay the 1,200 baht for hiring them to carry the loads up the valley in Mae Rim.

Netizens praised the idea noting that you don't need a university degree or even a high school certificate to have good ideas.

Another example of technology taking jobs away from human employees just trying to feed their families.

Yes, that's sarcasm...maybe.

Great job dude. like I always said ( two years in Nam) give these folks a pile of water buffalo poo and they can build a temple. I find most ( at least here in Issan ) extremely ingenious.

Even if the original idea was not his, he has used it to improve his life. There are very few original ideas, only different applications.

Well done that man!

Those plants are cabbage, not lettuce.

Nancy, you shock me.  :shock1:

These are lettuces, not cabbages. Cabbages are Brassica Oleracea and these are clearly Lactuce Sativa

Have you been cooking Thai/Chinese food all these years getting the two mixed up? 555
