PATTAYA:--Soi Siam Country Club residents outraged by extreme delays in completing reconstruction of the thoroughfare have gone beyond complaining verbally. They’ve erected a sign.

“Help! Construction has been going on for nearly two years and it’s nowhere near completed. Traffic jams, flooding and accidents happen often and it’s affecting the people!” the sign put up in front of the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation reads.

Roadwork, detours and inconvenience related to installation of new drainage pipes and resurfacing of the road began Jan. 25, 2016 and was supposed to be completed April 4 this year. But in May, Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit said the construction had been halted indefinitely due to heavy rain and flooding.

Residents and business owners, with many having to close their shops due to the inability of customers to reach their stores, rose up in anger, slamming the sub-district for botching the job and ruining their lives.

Mai on June 13 said the work now will be done by November, but he changed his reason for the construction delay.

What they've done to SSCC is criminal and I feel for all the residents and businesses affected by this incompence. And to think, the road was only recently dug up and resurfaced a few years ago and this work wasn't done then.

Businesses should take out a class action suit against the civil authorities which have bankrupted them by their inefficiency.  See if John Grisham is available.

The bizzare defamation laws here make it more than awkward for people to stand up for themselves; as well as current laws relating to protests. The people in charge are only accountable to their masters in Bangkok. This is a good example of how the current regime singularly fails the local population.

Could the reconstruction funds have been subverted? :whistling:

Very probably
