PHUKET: -- According to Phuket Governor Norrapat Plodthong the island is in need of a further 1,500 CCTV cameras to fully meet its Smart City status by the year 2020.

However, Gov Norrapat did not state how much the additional cameras would cost or where the budget for them would come from.

Gov Norrapat made his announcement during a meeting held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Tuesday (June 27) where various issues regarding the Smart City status were discussed.

I see the Gov is still pushing this 'Smart' idea. Before talking about Smart Government, now Smart City ....  Mind you might be a large brown envelope from a 1,500 CCTV contract.

Why not make it 3000. Reason for that is the miscalculation of all the cameras that don´t work later.

And a few thousand kilometres of wires, they're short on wires.

Makes me wonder, who owns the company to supply and install the 1.500 CCTV's in a province that vows to be corruption free.

"However, Gov Norrapat did not state how much the additional cameras would cost or where the budget for them would come from."

Stuff the corruption campaign!  One thing is for sure; the successful bidder already has a supply of brown envelopes.

Looking at the picture they seems to be in more need of an electrician

Smart city, smart CCTV cameras, smart idea ... we now only need smart people !

Is it the 'we need more cameras' time of year again already. How about 100 that work instead of thousands that don't and the money pit they disappear into.

Smart City...? Lol, the top pic says it all... oh dear never mind

That picture really does wonders for the "Smart City" concept!

Seems they already have 2,000 cameras but only 500 connected to the 'command' center.

Anyone with a bit of sense would be getting the budget to connect the existing 1,500 non connected cameras to command before talking about more cameras.... oh well TIT

.......and another 3000 operators to watch them.

Two per camera; one can watch whilst the other is on Facebook.

will they be connected to anything, or just for show

self contained system would be the best bet,  records 24/7   and can dl if there is an incident
