BANGKOK: -- Fugitive ex-monk Wirapol Sukphol, better known as Luang Pu Nenkham, is due to arrive in Bangkok on Wednesday night, after he declined to appeal against a US extradition ruling, the director of the Department of Special Investigation said on Tuesday.

DSI chief Pol Colonel Phaisit Wongmuang said Wirapol is expected to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 10pm or 11pm.

He said the fugitive declined to appeal against an extradition ruling by a court in California.

He is wanted in Thailand on charges of fraud, sexual harassment against a juvenile, and money laundering.

Efforts to extradite Luang Pu Nenkham have been ongoing since last year after a request to do so was made by the DSI to the Office of the Attorney General.

The Office of the Attorney General worked closely with US authorities until the court in California permitted the extradition.

Thailand and the US have a criminal extradition treaty.

Thailand have to make an example of this piece of garbage so no way does he walk away with just a slap on the wrist and a fine. Those of you just guessing about him being a flight risk, having billions stashed away somewhere are just talking out of your ar.s.es. He has been an embarrassment for the Buddhist hierachy, the Thai government and now that they have him back here you can bet they are going to make a very public example of him.

You mean like the Red Bull chappie, where after several years the authorities are still gathering evidence to issue an extradition request.
