PHAYAO: -- Floods hit the downtown area of Phayao’s Dok Kham Tai district on Tuesday morning following two days of heavy rain unleashed by the influence of tropical storm Talas.

The Rong Chang River, which flows through the centre of Doi Kham Tai, burst its banks and water inundate houses and main roads in the district.

The road along the river in the downtown area was under 50 centimetres of water on Tuesday morning and the water was continuing to rise.

Several other roads were affected including San Chang Hin-Suriyachai Market, Srichoom-Sawang Arom and San Klang-Srichoom roads.

Moo 3 and Moo 4 villages in tambon Boonkerd were hit by floodwaters that made their main roads impassable.

Local government agencies issued alerts for local residents to monitor the flood situation closely.

Monks and local residents made flood levees with sandbags in a bid to protect their residences.
