EC sets August 19 next year as tentative date for election

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission (EC) has set August 19, 2018 as a tentative date for general election.

 

The date was fixed after the EC’s board held a meeting on July 17 to lay down a timeframe for the next general election in 2018.

 

EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen said the tentative date for general election was set in line with the working timetable of election officials. The tentative date was just a preparatory date.

 

The exact date, however, was not officially fixed yet, he said.

Mind you, things might change, what with a new EC being appointed, and a few other things...

It will always be a date next year until the Thai people stand up for their rights and tell these buffalos to get back into the barracks where they belong then lock the gates and throw away the keys.

With time for election certification and royal endorsement (assuming Prayut doesn't challenge the results and PM nominee), the new government will have no input into the FY2019 budget (10/01/2018-9/31/2019). The new government must abide by whatever budget Prayut has passed through his appointed NLA for FY 2019. Add to that constraint the requirement to conform to Prayut's 20-year reform plan and oversight by the Prayut-appointed Senate, the next government is going to be simply a placeholder for the autocracy. 

An oligarchy government would be more honest than the faux democratic government that the Thai people will see.
