Behind the scenes: What Thais do on holiday

By The Nation

The first 24 hours of a holiday are crucial for Thais, with more than half (58 per cent) believing that the first day sets the tone for the rest of the holiday, and nearly half (49 per cent) going as far as to say that these hours can make or break their trip, according to a survey conducted by the travel website Booking.com.

“Holidays are times when we can go to new places, try new experiences and take a break from the routine of everyday life. Expectations often run high and with so much to see and do, a lot rides on those first 24 hours,” said Pepijn Rijvers, chief marketing officer at Booking.com.

But how do these hours play out? What are the ultimate priorities for Thais during that first day on holiday? Here’s what really goes on in the first 24 hours.

First items on the agenda are what you’d expect: Explore around the hotel (59 per cent) and unpack their bags (43 per cent). Meanwhile another 59 per cent choose to go for a long walk after arriving at the destination, and indulge in a local delicacy (53 per cent).

Maybe the headline should be:

Behind the scene, what do TVF posters do with an article

answer: don't read it and make generalized statements bashing Thais

There we go, easy :)

The research also shows that 21st Century Thais traveller will start taking pictures for social media channels (43 per cent) right away, within the first 24 hours of their holiday...

My guess was not too far off...Fartbook

Everywhere in the word the go, when they get hungry, they look for Thai food to eat.. also lots of drinking and loafing around, in general Thais are intimidated by not knowing the local

lingo and thus shy away from having to use foreign languages where possible....

Eat, sleep, look at their Smartphones, and take pictures of themselves.

Besides of what they usually do...(eating, sleeping and telling lies)...they go out to make the roads more dangerous...Me, me, me....

You mean like the rest of the world do when they're in a foreign country, Americans in the UK trying to drive the wrong way round a traffic Island and confusing 100Kmh road signs with 100 Mph in euro countries, or Brits attempting to enter the exit of a freeway in the States, or perhaps the French coming off an freeway entry ramp in Canada assuming they have the right of way when they do in France, but, oh no! not in Canada, want more examples, how about which States can you turn right on a red, etc. etc.? All tourists are a risk at first until they get to know the rules, we have to live with it... I should know, 'cos I ain't so innocent, and certainly don't have the credentials to single out Thai tourists.

I think its also a generalized statement whenever someone does not agree with the country's high moral standards (you may want to call it "Thainess") , imagined superiority over all other nations on this planet, and refer to these people as Thai bashers.

No.  They visit wats and waterfalls like all the foreigners do.

When you've seen one wat, you've seen the lot.  I imagine that's the same for most Thais.

In my condo complex, weekending Thais seem to make first for the swimming pool and stay there for hours, jumping in an out of the water, the women always fully clothed....

Nope.

correct  answer:  scrutinize comments for any opportunity to bash other members

Easy enough for those with experience at it...

Wait, what? 100 kmh is NOT the same as 100 mph? No wonder I keep getting pulled over.

Eat, sleep, FB, selfies and get in a accident. Not necessarily in that order.

Hey, how else do you think Canadians/Euros put bread on their table, you're pretty much their sole source of income.  :partytime2:

I was perhaps referring to the words of the Female minister of Sport and Tourism who seems to think 90% of all tourists are here because they are wat & waterfall lovers.

Why do you capitalise the fact that the Minister of Sport and Tourism is a female?

Not that I give a shit really...but I'm sure some of our more sensitive posters will pick up on it.

Confusingly, there are apparently two different ministers who share some responsibility for tourism.  I was identifying the one who tends to comment about what she considers are the more wholesome attractions of Thailand for tourists.

One thing I see on buses and with my Thai family, is that a lot of Thais nap a lot when they are travelling by land.

I hope they enjoy the scenery more when they are visiting other countries as they spend a lot of baht to be on that

foreign trip.  Yes I have also seen so many take a lot of food pictures when they are out in restaurants for meals.

it is an atricle on what Thais do on holiday, which funnily enough is the same as everyone else,. So, don't know why you are talking about the country's high moral standards??
