Power pole left in the middle of the road - but nobody mentions it might be dangerous

A story about a power pole left in the middle of construction of a new concrete road hit several Thai media outlets.

But neither the Tnews story nor one in more detail from Manager mentioned that it might be dangerous if anyone tried to use the road.

Both news media were trying to find out who was responsible.

The local administration in Ao Yai, Trat, in Thailand's east, blamed the electric company. While the electric company blamed them for not telling them it needed to be moved.

The result was that the pole remains almost squarely in the middle of Soi Lung Somporn as the road nears completion.

Apparently some locals said the road should be redirected because of fears of subsidence from a pond but there was a lot of miscommunication.

The electric company told Manager they would move it when they get the paperwork.

The local mayor Rangwan said his hands were tied - he had to get a move on now it was the rainy season and build the road and felt there was no problem in moving the pole later.

Everyone seemed to think it would all get sorted - and no one mentioned it could pose a hazard even though there appeared to be no lighting in the area.

It should be noted that the Thai word for plan is plan... so this is a relatively new addition to their genome...  :coffee1:

Par for the course...

Thai engineering.

If you don't like it you can leave. :cheesy:

Do not forget it is the Thai Railway Engineers who have to conduct examination tests on the Chinese railway engineers and qualify them before they can work on the High Speed  rail system. Heaven help those who travel on it.

All is well in the Land of Smiles.

this whole thing is so wrong on many levels; the end product, as ludicrous as it is, should Never have gotten anywhere near completion, where o where are the brains here ?! someone, a foreman, a manager perhaps, just went blindly right on with this; if it is idiocy, then recognize it,label it and FIX it; i shudder to think what happens in the backrooms of lawmakers here

And they have the cheek to claim they have Engineers. Really?

Just Proves you can't fix stupid! :shock1:

even as long as you live here.......; amazing thailand, but not that garbage marketing that TAT did; this case might add an element to thainess

i bet a whole bunch of us can comment on how foolish and embarassing this should be to thailand; along all that way, might point out the value of the news media here; imagine if they hadnt highlighted this; would it really NOT be addressed ?!

There is nothing to say it will be addressed. Most likely the pole will still be sitting there in 10 years time.

pity, might be a tourist attraction then; not a very positive one

Not all is bad, since this must be the only power pole in Thailand that is placed in concrete

No, here in chiang mai we have them in the gutter, not in the middle but still a hazard. A few of us were having a beer one day and a Thai kid ran into one on his scooter we do not know if he went to sleep or just lost concentration. He was ok not hurt

ahhh; maybe there is the rub; no-one uses the road; idle concrete

I am not up to date on this. A while ago, there was the idea making the rounds, that Thailand would be building and operating Nuclear-Power-Plants.

Is this still on the agenda?
Cheers.

High speed will be powered by whats called OCS (Overhead Catenary System) A system of overhead wire that carries electricity to power the train. Third rail system like BTS cannot be used at higher speed because it the pick up shoes on the train that runs along the third rail would be mangled basically. Obviously, OCS requires masts to keep it in the air

dont doubt you in the slightest ; so what is their idea ?: (or are their ideas just barstool 'ideas'?)

If racism weren't so rife, maybe someone would want to educate them.

If xenophobia weren't so rife, maybe they would listen.

Post blaming current government removed.

It´s just a pole! It´s not like they done anything stupid???

Plenty of room for bikes, just needs a few lights!

Twits.

Indeed; you almost need Section 44 like authority to get anything done; even the simplest, most basic, common sense dictated, tasks.

We informed our electric company one of their poles was left in a dangerous state after a drunk smashed into it.  They came; inspected it; agreed it was dangerous but said they could do nothing till we moved the water pipe from near the base.  This we did and the 'engineers' arrived and promptly smashed the water pipe requiring the water board to perform emergency repairs.  That was over a week ago and the pole is now in an even more precarious state but no sign of a return.

I heard they are going to widen the road and them use the pole as a roundabout with 2 more roads going off it .
