Repairs to Phuket tsunami-warning towers underway

PHUKET: -- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket office (DDPM-Phuket) has announced that it aims to have all 19 tsunami-warning towers in Phuket operational by the end of this month.

 

The news comes after DDPM Deputy Director-General Kobchai Boonyaorana last Saturday (July 29) revealed that of the 19 “facilities” in Phuket, 11 are “out of order”.

 

“Out of the eight siren towers in Phang Nga, five are out of order. But all four broadcast towers are working,” Mr Kobchai told The Bangkok Post.

Is there a Thai phrase for 'routine maintenance'?

More stupidity from the local authorities....no idea about maintenance whatsoever!

So they aren't operational at the moment?  How did they allow 11 to become inoperative?  I could understand 1 or 2 going through maintenance at any given time but 11 inoperative.

I've never seen Planned preventive maintenance (PPM) in Thailand.

Message to Mr Tsunami " please wait until the end of the month (which month?which year?) until performing a trial... and please do it smoothly .,, PS : take your time there is nobody exept chinese...thank you so much" ???????

They must have found the money somewhere for some SupaGlue, and plastic ties,

Awaiting a new consignment of Duct tape and for the manual explaining how to use it to be translated into Thai!

Not surprising really. 

Thais won't do anything unless it is pretty much forced upon them. 

 

Im actually surprised some were working. 

Those numbers sound padded.  I guess they couldn't say they are all down.
