There must be more involved then what is being reported. How do these girls ensure payments if they are baring themselves on facebook? There must be others behind this and doing all the organising. And by using the girls to advertise themselves known as sideliners they can get around the human traffickng laws, whereas those running the show remain behind the scenes.

This is a problem as no one in authority  is getting a middle man cut, a bit like cutting a girl from outside a bar without paying the fine. Nothing worse than going outside the confines of business with independent endeavour.

 

As for the morality issue, this would have been down to the parents and teachers to instill. With money as the God for 99% of Thais, they probably face an uphill task, if any of them even bother to try.

Very simple to do by yourself. No middleman/person needed. All Thai banks have online services and apps. Transferring money is quick and easily verifiable. If it's a foreigner, they will use PayPal or Western Union.

No, I didn't miss the main part of the OP. I mean to say any girls be they school girls or grown up they should be free from those pimps who make use of them.

When I was 13 years old I was seduced by a 18 year old girl who made friend with my sister so she could sleep over in our house the older girls sleep in their room of course but we used the toilet at 3 am in the morning.

So a lot of sex going on in our family .  I wouldn't be surprised if my 14 year old daughter wants to sell her body on the Facebook. Nothing much I could do really, scolding her will make things worse, a lot more worse. I would pretend not knowing about it. If she wants to be a prostitute she will become a prostitute. Just love her as she is if you don't want to create mental suffering for anyone as well as for yourself.

That was my point above. You might well be able to call this prostitution, since in the OP article there was reference to the Facebook stuff leading to in-person contact.

 

But individual young women doing this kind of thing on their own surely could not be legally considered human trafficking, not even in Thailand. And that, unfortunately, is a subject Thailand seems to know quite a bit about.

This sounds like a variation of 'web-camming' which has been going on in many other countries for years. Girls talk/do things on webcams and desperate men watch and send gifts or money. This has the advantage that girls can potentially make money online themselves from their own homes instead of having pimps or going on the streets/brothels, however, 'VICE" made a good documentary about web cam girls in China who were essentially controlled by 'media companies'. 

As for Thai girls using the internet to prostitute themselves out, that's been going on for years. I first came to Thailand in 2006 and I remember trying online dating - can't even remember the name of the site. I remember one lady showing an interest in me and when I responded, she sent me a link....to her escort agency's website!
