Tourism and Sports Ministry launches Thai Sustainable Tourism in Thai Way of Life campaign

BANGKOK, 10 August 2017 (NNT) – The cabinet has approved the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ proposal to make 2018 a year of “Thai Sustainable Tourism in Thai Way of Life”.

Tourism and Sports Minister Korpkarn Watthanawarangkul disclosed that the cabinet had approved the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ campaign proposal to pursue the “Thai Sustainable Tourism in Thai Way of Life” project in 2018, which is in accordance with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ strategy that aims to make Thailand a top global tourist attraction that will promote economic development and distribute income to people in all sectors.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has asked for cooperation from all parties both public and private sectors to be good hosts to both Thai and foreign tourists, while the project is set between 1 November 2017 and 1 January 2019.

The project will not require an additional budget but it will merge various activities meaningfully to impress tourists.

So no more Formula1 races in Thailand? Well let's do the Tour the France in then.

And to do the Thai way of life we can do sports like cockfighting or the chicken game where 2 cars drive towards eachother and the one who steers away the latest is the winner.

Or we can do motocycleracing in busy traffic, i bet the Thai drivers will win that though.

You want to ' impress tourists ' start with not making them wait for hours

in immigration ques both in and out the country and that will  be a good

place to start....

Jetskis with happy endings, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Pokemon, paragliding, Kit Kat Durian tasting, survival trails with a gold necklace on beach road, speedboat crashes live, detention for fish feeding, discover our road rage experience, etc. just to name a few.

Propaganda at its best. Just throwing around popular words !

Fact is: Tourism and sustainability is a contradiction !

Tourism can never be sustainable as it always has to destroy the environment. There is just no other way.

It is just one more episode in the "let's talk, let's discuss how we can get more tourists, without actually improving the place, and spending any real money to make things better for those tourists" saga. Nothing behind it. No creative thought. No progressive ideas. Just some nincompoop mimicking something he or she read in the foreign press, or heard at a tourism conference. The more serious nations of the planet is getting real about sustainability, recycling, clean up the beaches, rivers, and seas, using alternative forms of energy, building green buildings, creating roof gardens, building hybrid vehicles, and Thailand typically lags behind the curve, to an extraordinary, and mind boggling degree. Instead of "Amazing Thailand", as a tourism slogan, how about "The land that never progresses", or "The nation without progressive minds", or "We only talk, but we do not act", or "Incomprehensible Thailand"?

This is just another in a series of attempts, done by people that are absolutely impossible to take seriously. Why? because they do not actually do anything. They issue these proclamations from morning to evening, and what comes of it? How does it actually improve lives? Where is the sustainability you speak of? Where is the environmental awareness that comes along with that? The line, the project will not require an additional budget says it all.

It is time for some of you people in these tourism departments to man up, and start acting. Words alone make you very dull boys. The nation is depending on you, and you are letting them down, at every opportunity. Sooner or later, the golden goose of tourism is going to dry up. Numbers alone do not tell the story. Quality of tourists, is far more important than quantity. But, of course that is falling upon deaf ears. It is all about the ever increasing numbers, despite the cost to the Thai people, the nation, and the environment.

Little P. Moving Thailand backwards at an astonishing and breathtaking pace.

Thai tourism has lost it's appeal, years ago you could boast paradise beaches, clean streets, good food, good entertainment  and pleasant service.

Now the beaches are appalling, side streets/back allies are dumping grounds for trash, food is somewhat a lottery outside of the 5-star hotels

service is questionable, sea quality is at an all time low, entertainment is low quality, loud in your face trash.

It doesn't matter how much you dress it up or try to re-brand it... modern media/blogs have spilled the truth on Thailand and laid it bare for the whole world to see the real truth.

It's an old tired brand that's worn out... Thailand just keeps flogging away with the same old thing and a coat of white wash

People will vote with their feet and go elsewhere!

Just a bunch of words thrown together for effect. If you want sustainable tourism then actually do something to achieve it , that means forward planning and investment.

Of course that would require expertise , hard work and cerebral effort so perhaps best to stick with the meaningless slogans.

Only if pavements are included in the track circuit

Thailand could have sustainable tourism if the country actually modernized and treat

the tourists, as if they want the tourist to return. Get rid of the visas that exist today.

Let the tourists in for 90 days with no visa required, and make the longer stay visas

better to use. If the tourists are treated the way they are today, Thailand will indeed

lose repeat tourists and other countries will get more. Countries like Vietnam, Cambodia,

and even Burma are getting more and more tourists.  Listen up TAT Thailand!

Geezer

" Thai Way of Life "

Is there anybody on this forum who can try and actually define this phrase?

Yes. A feeling that this is the most important country in the world. The knowledge that where we are living is the center of the universe. A people bursting with pride, at knowing that they are at the apex of culture, finance, power, and intellectual prowess. A country with the real, true religion, and with smart and benevolent leaders, who are spending every minute, of every day trying to make life better for the common man. A vastly superior moral and ethical nature, that allows the Thai people to rise above the rest of the world, and live in absolute, and complete harmony with each other. And a grand vision for the future of this illustrious nation.
