Thermal Resistant Bricks

Recommended Posts

Currently in the process of building an external kitchen with laundry and storeroom which will connect to the main houses internal kitchen via an internal door,  looking at the compass as you see it, it will be located on the southern side and if that is the correct side, the sun will be pretty much there most of the day until it moves to the front of the house (west).

Looking for suggestions on brick types to use to reduce the heat that will be coming into the kitchen, we built the house with a single long blonde brick and rendered over it, and that side of the houses internal wall which will butt up against the external kitchen gets hot, and as the external kitchen will run the length of the house in that section, i.e. 12 metres long, I am not looking at making the same error, although I am aware that the houses external wall will be cooler because the kitchen will be covering it so to speak.

I did suggest to the Mrs that we do a cavity wall, double brick with a 50mm gap between, but she fears her kitchen will eventually be smaller (width wise) internally, i.e. it will be 2170, but with the cavity will be 1980mm wide, 6,2,1, half dozen the other I say, but I am not the cook or cleaner, so want to make it as pleasant for her as possible as she loves to cook and is a good cook at that.

We have a bigger internal kitchen 4 x 4 which continues (open plan) to the dining area of 4 x 5 so the external kitchen will be for cooking and washing of the plates only, the internal kitchen has all the cupboards, bench spaces for preparation, and the fridge etc etc.

I suppose I am looking for a thermal reflective type of brick, any suggestions, i.e. good for a single brick external wall, or double brick with cavity is best. roof will be the typical iron roof.

Appreciate your feedback in advance.

Not logical to abut the stove against the internal wall of the house. Build a dado wall for the stove.

Apology, meant cook top, we have a portable oven which works well, and will be used in an undercover section as it does heat up the current kitchen room.

Electrical cooktop would not be a problem and gives out little polluted heat.

But gas cooktop would need insulation from strong winds to cook properly.

The external kitchen will be enclosed, therefore limited wind 555
