snoop1130
Korean snorkeller suffocates in Krabi By Sittichai Sikhawat The Nation A Korean man died during a snorkelling trip in Krabi province on Monday. Hwang Suho, 37, joined a group tour for snorkelling near Hong Island, part of the Than Bok Khorani National Park. The park’s chief, Jampen Phompakdee, said that the victim was seen clinging onto a life jacket, instead of wearing it, while snorkelling. “The next minute, the tour staff found him floating so still with face down under water. He had his snorkelling mask on but there was blood coming from his nose. They rushed to rescue him but it was too late. Although his body was brought back to the boat and staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he showed no sign of response,” he said. Jampen said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death. Briggsy
What is it with East Asians and drowing on holiday in Thailand? If it is not the Chinese, it is the Koreans. It is at least 2 every week, if not considerably more.

It's as if he'd never see the sea before...very strange.

Not so much a function of "bothering" as the economics of access to a safe place to learn and paying (or cajoling) someone to teach them. We grew up spending summers around the local swimming pool and supervised beaches, with parents able (even eager) to pay for lessons. And some parents that could teach those who couldn't afford the lessons. Not everyone is that lucky.
Briggsy
So, extrapolating from my earlier question, why go snorkelling if you cannot swim?
geriatrickid
The deceased did not "suffocate". Infuriating conclusions made without benefit of a post mortem. A patient presenting with bleeding from the nose suggests hemorrhagic stroke. The patient passes out and if in water, drowns unless rescued within 30 seconds. Seems someone is negligent as a snorkeling tour guide.

I was clinging to my Cha Khiaw for dear life.
