Dear Fellow Thaivisa.com Posters,

Yesterday, I posted a thread looking for insight about traveling from Thailand [ LOS ] to UK or Ireland by Ship [ e.g. Cargo Ship ] & bringing Mountain Bike ;

Prior to starting the thread, I found very little info.

Yet, after starting the thread upon searching on web again I found much more info ; Funny how life is 8-)

Apparently, if one is regular passenger on Cargo Ship, compared to cheapest airplane return ticket & paying for heavy cargo to be economically shipped, such a voyage will be :

more expensive if carrying less than 1 metric ton of belongings

prone to delays

not be opportunity to get free trip, or even only a good discount, were u to work on board for the ship ; Because, no longer is working on this basis allowed for reasons of "Employer-Union Agreements" & "Insurance".

So, I now start thread seeking good information about essentially bringing a Motorcycle or Scooter purchased in LOS from LOS overland with minimal driving to UK & after some months back again to LOS ;

Perhaps, through China & Russia ;

With

1.

Motorcycle / Scooter as Cargo :

1.1

under Coach Bus

1.2

in Train Cargo Carriage

& / or

2.

Motorcycle / Scooter on river barges

or

3.

just be prepared to drive Motorcycle / Scooter all the ways

Your thinking is clearly disordered. Why do you want to ship a heavy motorcycle to the UK and back again? It is madness.

You need to think more logically. Buy a small jet engine which you can then attach to a folding commuter bike.

Rather like this:

OP - if you are serious, this link will help you understand how you can temporarily import/use a motorcycle in the UK ... https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/temporary-imports

You need to be aware that this only applies to non-UK residents ... http://www.hughesguides.com/foreignvehicles.pdf

If you really want to travel overland from Thailand to the UK this site may interest you ... https://www.seat61.com/

I actually am particularly interested in alternative power for Bicycles & Motorcycles ahead of posting this thread ;

But, was not aware of the likes of this.

Bookmarked now.

Much thanks.

Superb precise info. for me Chickenslegs,

www.seat61.com is an outstanding website ;

Yet, in my searches prior to starting this thread, I never came across it.

So, much thanks to u Chickenslegs.

The other links are most useful too.

Returning to www.seat61.com, there is so much quality info. here that I know I will be busy for some time before I actually commit myself to such a journey.

Another, consideration is driving a new pickup or used pickup from Thailand to UK & / or Ireland.
