  1. I am not sure whether to laugh or cry..... The world (well certainly the UK) has gone mad
  2. See my comment above - purely my opinion However this guy is conflating 2/3 issues - change to tax regs, advice and NIT. Personally I found the article on NIT he refers to a bit of a storm in a tea cup and there has been little comment about it which I believe is as it should be.
  3. You will probably find that they all have a resident Thai lawyer under who's auspices any "advice" rather than an opinion is given. Unfortunately The Pattaya Mail has published at least 2 articles supposedly written by Thai tax "experts" that were at best misleading and in one case factually incorrect.......
  4. Finally somebody mentions it - yet certain posters seem to be happy debating it over and over again....... Tax threads - the carousel of perpetual motion..........
  5. Plenty of stuff online to help you get rid of it although I agree it does take some tenacity. We even had a thread on here some/many months ago about doing just that.
  6. yes here is something from Ask Woody Also an interesting take on other "options" for extended life....... https://www.theregister.com/2024/10/16/windows_7_eol/
  7. I have to confess I never gave it a good run - was on my gf's laptop at the time and compared to 7 I just found it frustrating. I am even using Open Shell on my Win 10.
  8. Perhaps not take too long as apparently BOT reduced the main rate by .25% today to 2.25%...... However this being Thailand you never know - The reduction was posted in another thread but I had to really search to find confirmation - https://www.reuters.com/markets/asia/thai-central-bank-unexpectedly-cuts-key-rate-by-25-bps-2024-10-16/
  9. I remember it well as took visits to 2 different offices and they filled in what seemed like 50 pages of paperwork in Thai - most of which was left blank. At the end of it they printed off a little yellow piece of paper the size of a large credit card with my Tin on it and a few other details.
  10. @chiang mai Here is a copy from 2018 - I think they filled in a little more info in later years but I have never previously heard that anyone could get a refund of tax withheld from bank interest without a TIN.
  11. Sorry but I don't agree with your "rationale". Everybody reading these posts is well aware (or should be) that you need to be here for 180 days in a calendar year to be tax resident - doesn't matter what else you call it. At the start of the article they state - This, to me anyway, is downright misleading and towards the end of the piece it then states - So there they add the caveat - when remitted into Thailand which is fine but the damage arguably has already been done. So generally I agree with @chiang mai statement that it is misleading. Whoever was responsible (John Spooner to quote you) perhaps should have fact checked it better. It note also that TPN Media effectively disassociated themselves from the content.......not surprising considering they had to print a correction not that long ago from another "lawyer/tax specialist". It is disappointing, to me, that some firms I may have previously considered as reference points, appear a little more than just ethically challenged with the potential monetisation of this particular issue - although at least the fees they quote seem a little more realistic
  12. When this was being regularly discussed probably 8 or more years ago the advice was get a TIN first and then claim - which is what I and numerous others did at the time. I only ever 9up to about 4 years ago) completed a 1 page return which I have mentioned before - but had my TIN on it. If I can I will dig out a copy.
  13. Thanks. I have seen a number of articles recently as I think there is almost exactly a year to go. I think I may be switching to Mint or similar for the majority of my usage depending on what other options surface in the interim. Especially as MSN effectively switched off Outlook 2007 at some point in the last couple of weeks which I was using as an offline store . Now switched that address to Thunderbird for that. Fortunately Word and Excel don't need web access for me
  14. This was only a "suggestion" from the recent/current DG of the Thai RD and if it happens it should take a while to go through the legal process. Really from whom? There was a change in the interpretation of one rule which arguably could have as much effect on Thai's as much as foreigners and then a subsequent ruling allowing savings pre 31/12/2023 to be exempted. Respectfully you may want to read some of the other threads on this subject as what you have written perhaps suggests some miscomprehensions.......
  15. Unless I am reading that wrong that was 3 years ago........so not really relevant to timescales happening (or not happening..) now.
  16. No they are not. The current DG of the TRD suggested that they are looking at it which is a long way from implementation....... Did you join just to post incorrect information.............
  17. Nothing to do with DWP - I did try and check with Future Pensions Centre as well. The payments and online portal all handled by HMRC. Previous years took up to (once) 16 weeks but that was during Covid.............
  18. You may be right but just a very quick search seems to suggest tied to crypto houses (not necessarily bad) and only really available for the last year or so (in current format) on a pc. Also slightly strange can find no "mainstream" reviews........ Personally I don't have an issue with Brave loading speed normally......YMMV
  19. yes well I have made payments for more than the last 5 years and my payment made (and confirmed verbally as received) in May still hasn't been credited. Even though it was transferred to a case worker the latest estimate I got was that it could be February before it showed up online....... That would only be more than 9 months.......... Seems to all be due to the relatively recent more public announcements of an extended period to be able to pay missing years which is a positive for many people. Having been chasing consistently I have now just resigned myself to waiting.
  20. Did you not read the mods request and then warning? If you have a beef can you do it by PM please as it is just distracting from any other possible pertinent info . Thanks.
  21. Thanks although surprised no brief mention of Germany's woes under the Europe comments. Will try to read the BOT one later.
  22. I take it they have tried changing the modem/router or is it your own? If it worked before and no settings have been changed sounds like their equipment?
  23. Been happening for the last 5 years or so (Ie it started pre-covid) in the moobaan I am in near Central/north Pattaya. Also seems to be a lot of Korean money going into restaurants and possibly some developments.
  24. There have been many views on this ranging across all parts of the spectrum from will happen soon to no chance. However since there has been no new official news it is all pure speculation. Even a small separate thread - https://aseannow.com/topic/1337570-world-wide-income-taxation-update/
  25. Yes this change seems to have happened today.......probably just have to get used to it......
