Rampant Street Racing Alarms Pattaya Residents
It may only be me but I am finding news reports seemingly written with AI "inspiration" more and more irritating to read. I can't read Thai but is the report an accurate translation of the original?

Why are UK expats still doing the 800K deposit for retirement extensions ?
You have an example of this and what "western" country are you referring to specifically? And please describe what exactly you base you last sentence on because that seems a bit like scaremongering.......

New "Income" tax law 2024
Just to make you feel worse you should be aware that the DTA between UK and Thailand specifically excludes pensions unless government (civil service). So in theory we could end up being taxed twice depending on how this plays out. The state pension does not count as govt. either ....... See Thailand on page 34 on the linked document and look across to note 4 on the far right. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra to be eligible for parole next year
Anybody else pick this up in the linked article - Specifically "incurable disease"....... Considering how little is being revealed, supposedly due to privacy, I am surprised that was slipped into the report.....

What is the real deal with proposed foreign income tax changes?
Unfortunately the only pensions covered under the DTA between UK and Thailand are government - that is civil service. Private pensions and state pension are specifically not covered. This has come up numerous times. Easiest way is to look at the Digest of DTAs - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf Go to page 34, Thailand look at note 4 on the far right of the page.

What is the real deal with proposed foreign income tax changes?
I think you are referring to CRS? If so that is something completely separate to the proposal announced by the new PM and being discussed here.

Those who have had their accounts closed by UK banks
Well your comprehension of that article is different to mine. There is nothing there that says the UK govt. wants them to close expat accounts. In fact I think there was an earlier link in this thread where someone stated that it is not the law but individual bank policy.

Thailand Senior Golfers Association
They play in 6 balls...... Out of curiosity how long is the round on average? Thanks for the info but I won't even normally play in a 5 ball let alone a 6 especially where everything has to be putted out.

I am totally powerless against it: The Google Machine!
Agreed but to add to my comment above I think most people also don't want to think about it. The TV series Rabbit Hole with Kiether Sutherland was very relevant in this sense and portrayed a view and use of data that most people I think would be horrified to know that we could be close to already.

I am totally powerless against it: The Google Machine!
Unfortunately I think most people just don't care.

I am totally powerless against it: The Google Machine!
Yet a month ago in another thread you said this at the end - This was from the start of the same post. I'm sure one of those planet names must be Uranus................ Or I guess a month is a long time in technology...........

Thailand’s crackdown on nominee shareholders reaches Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi
Well either I missed it or context but either way it's sad.

Thailand’s crackdown on nominee shareholders reaches Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi
Disappointed in you transam. Taking pleasure out of others potential misfortune. Especially as I don't particularly remember "chaps gloating".......... I partly agree with @PETERTHEEATER that it is probably more directed at businesses rather than individuals.

Spider senses tarantula tingling: Arachnologists spin a web of discovery in Thailand
I know you said usually but unfortunately I don't think I would be very tolerant if I found any kind of poisonous creature in or around where I lived.......

Debris found in search for F-35 fighter jet that went missing after pilot ejected during 'mishap'
According to the report I read the pilot set its automatic pilot before ejecting. Did he set it for a particular spot or to just fly on.........could it have crashed on buildings or a road?

how to handle request of " no income declaration" from Thai authorities
Yes I find the statement "being registered as non-resident for tax" in the UK slightly disingenuous as you still pay tax on most UK generated income. The only way to avoid on a private pension would have been to move offshore in some way but that comes with it's own set of costs and issues. The other issue is that in the DTA with Thailand both state and private pensions are not included (govt/civil service are) which in theory could lead to double taxation of said income....... At least as a UK citizen you get to keep the PA if you want to.

UK IT firms back nationwide tablet initiative for equal education
Yes I was looking for a reference to a UK company as well. Interestingly the words "UK" are not used in the Thaiger headline (or not anymore?) so why did AN add it...........

Where to find German Shepherd or Doberman puppies in Isan or Thailand in general
I think this is the 'official' Thai GSD site - http://gsd.in.th/en Has a facebook link etc on the page. There is a very well established breeder in Pattaya with great facilities who used to also have gsd shows where pedigree gsds came from all over Thailand to compete. Just did a quick search and found this link to a previous thread -

Why is landlord asking so many private questions before agreement ?
Then you have never had the experience of renting. If you had then you would know the types of people that try to rent who then want to bring in 3 or 4 others to spread the cost - making the rental into an HMO which brings in a whole raft of other regulations to which you may not be able to comply. If as a renter you cannot prove the income required to fund the rent and live why would a landlord want to rent to you.........This is as true of Thailand as of the UK. It may be easier to remove people here than in the UK but most security deposits are unlikely to cover potential damages especially on cheaper rentals.

kasikorn bank fixed deposit rates 1 year / 2 year term payout
Not sure why many posters bang on about this when the central bank rate in the UK and the US is over 5% - ECB just raised to 4% and no idea what Australia is. Compare that to Thailand.......I believe that's only 2.25%. Banks are not charities.
