  1. I am certainly willing to admit error if I am wrong because I only quote the bank's document that is dated almost 3 years ago. But based on the opinions of other posters and the Bangkok customer service line ..... it seems you will be dining on crow soon.
  2. Are you sure you have the decimal place in the right spot? The Bangkok bank website shows FCD for an individual pays .05% for a 1 month term and only .6% for a 12 month term. The interest rate PDF is only available in Thai and it doesn't have the '%' sign, instead it just shows .05. I really doubt that it means 5%... much more likely it is .05%
  3. They provide enough revenue to tide the polling companies over the dry spell before the campaigns heat up.
  4. Good that you have had the comment taken down. Now, go take good quality "before" photos that cover every area of every unit you rent out.
  5. Your understanding of the applicability of a DTA is far too narrow. The stipulations in a DTA are not restricted to those citizens of the foreign country that collect no Thai income.
  6. I also switched banks between extensions. The "new" account is from SCB and comes with no bank book. I made the switch during the months when only 400K was required. There was a 2 month period where I had 400K in each bank to make it easy for IO to see that I was always in compliance with minimum deposit. I got an account affirming letter from both banks and a 12 month statement from "old" bank and a 4 month statement from "new" bank.
  7. Trump is appealing the verdict in the first trial. I don't think he is appealing just the compensatory damages assessed. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/11/trump-appeals-verdict-liable-for-sexual-assault-00096568
  8. Because you can't/won't/don't think deeply enough to justify the stationing of troops in Jordan, your opinion bears a greater resemblance to flatulence than fact.
  9. Perhaps the author will turn out to be a one-hit wonder. I recommend collecting a few more samples before leaping to a conclusion.
  10. It sounds like the funds you intend to use for building your house have been earned before 2024. If that is true it should be easy to prove that the funds are NOT taxable by Thailand. Many AN posters seem to believe that any remittance will be taxable. I think that is a very unlikely outcome. The "new" tax rules have already been clarified that any income from any year before 2024 will not be taxed even if remitted to Thailand. I don't think you should worry about paying Thai tax on the money you remit to be used for building your house. Personally I would spend a lot less money on the house and much more money on hiring excellent gardeners, and cooks to preserve my health. In Thailand the pesticide residues are a serious problem that will takes years to manifest. After all, your health is your most precious asset.
  11. That's why they often install two (or more!)ceiling units in large rooms.
  12. I've done it many times when entering Thailand with my wife. It didn't seem to matter what my Immigration status was at the time of entry, although I have not yet travelled out of Thailand while on an extension.
  13. The point of his request is that he is not buying sheets to fit a bed here in Thailand. He wants to buy for his bed in the EU. It seems he was hoping that buying sheets labeled Queen (for example only) size would fit a standard Queen size in his homeland.
  14. Google will tell you standard bed sizes for Thailand and probably also for your home country.
  15. You only mention that you live in the West. I can only offer comparison between Thailand and USA. Standard Thai mattress sizes are different than in the US. It may be impossible to buy sheets in Thailand that are made to fit the standard US sizes. Also, I find upscale household items are more expensive in Thailand than in the US.
  16. Also the parent's education is often severely lacking so they are unable to assist their children in understanding the lessons. I was extremely fortunate in that my mother was a teacher ... and I am the youngest child. My mother made sure my elder siblings had help with their lessons.... and they in turn helped me with mine. The school we attended was essentially a bare minimum one. It was one room with one teacher and about 20 students in grades 1 through 8. We were well educated because of my mother's devotion to that task. That shows how important parental input is to a child's education.

  19. I sometimes notice my tinnitus but most of the time it's very low and fairly easy to ignore. A Washington Post article about a new treatment: https://wapo.st/3UoQARJ I have a WaPo subscription and they let me share a few articles each month to non-subscribers. I hope that link works here on AN.
  20. I don't know what types of annuities are possible or available in Thailand. Is it possible to purchase an annuity that simply holds the funds for a specific term and then pays out fixed amounts for a fixed term? If yes, then you could purchase one that begins payouts when your step-daughter turns 20 and then pays monthly for the fixed term (maybe 10 years). It may be possible to make yourself the annuity beneficiary but upon your passing your daughter would become the beneficiary.
  21. When you create a torrent, all you really create is a small descriptor file that describes the content that you are willing to then share for those who wish to download it. That small torrent file is what is stored on sites like Pirate Bay. The Pirate Bay server does not store any of the actual shared files. When you wish to download content, your torrent client will first download the descriptor file and then use it to connect to other users/computers that have the file containing the movie/program/book that you are seeking. Most torrent client programs will be uploading pieces of the targeted content at the same time it is being downloaded piece by piece. You normally can configure the torrent client program so it doesn't do any uploading. I believe that if you don't actually upload any content it is more difficult for the torrent policing systems to determine that you are illegally sharing content.
  22. Yes, I believe that is their minimum for an international account. My account is still based in US. I just haven't bothered to switch it to international.
  23. I personally don't use bleach. I use a bucket of water splashed into the bowl to lower the water level. To protect the septic tank bacteria, I use a brush and the smallest practical amount of the product you say is useless. By every fourth such cleaning a barely visible ring of hard water stain remains at the normal height of the water in the bowl. After using the bowl cleaner I then use a piece of pumice to remove that ring of stain followed by a full toilet flush. Et voilà ... a sparking bowl is revealed. I imported a supply of pumice that should last many years.
  24. Too many dog owners have no clue about their dog's needs. They give them food and water but little attention otherwise. In the mubaan where we rented, I used to walk by so many houses with dogs that are starving for attention. Their owners consider them solely as livestock that alert them when anyone approaches their property.
