  1. It is very likely that the Thai banks send the TRD the amount of any interest paid out along with the information identifying the recipient. The reasoning I used is that since anyone can file a Thai tax form to get the withholding returned(if overpaid), the TRD would be able to verify that the tax filing is correct using data from the banks. You seem pretty sure that the Thai banks don't send such information to TRD. What is the basis of your opinion?
  2. I would guess that any farang who received interest from a Thai bank would already be in the RD system. Doesn't that sound reasonable?
  3. Wow... finally you got something right @Yellowtail.... prosecutors are government employees! But of course you call it a trough because that's what you use too?
  4. The exchange rate is set by Visa or Mastercard and is updated about 7AM every Tue-Sat. See my earlier post for links to Visa/Mastercard.
  5. Yes, socialistic policies do drive up prices. But you're missing the other side of the equation... living standards are also much much higher. If you had lived and worked in Thailand all you life, your experience of it would be much different than it is for you now. Me: "why are wages so low in Asia?" Chatgpt: " he issue of low wages in many parts of Asia is complex and influenced by a variety of factors. Here are some key reasons: Economic Development Levels: Many Asian countries are at different stages of economic development. In less developed countries, lower wages can be a result of lower productivity and less capital investment. Labor Market Dynamics: High population growth and large labor forces in countries like India and China can lead to an oversupply of workers, which puts downward pressure on wages. Global Competition: Many Asian countries are involved in global supply chains and are often competing to attract foreign investment by offering lower labor costs. This can keep wages lower as companies seek to minimize production costs. Education and Skills: In many regions, there may be a mismatch between the skills workers have and the skills that are in demand, leading to lower wages for less skilled labor. Regulation and Labor Rights: Varying levels of labor protections and regulations across different countries can impact wages. In some places, weaker labor rights and fewer regulations can lead to lower wages and poorer working conditions. Economic Policies: Government policies and economic structures, such as trade policies and investment in education, can also play a role in wage levels. Countries with lower levels of investment in education and infrastructure may see slower wage growth. Cost of Living: In some regions, lower wages are partially offset by a lower cost of living. This means that while wages may seem low compared to Western standards, they might be sufficient for the local cost of living. Informal Economy: In many countries, a significant portion of the workforce is employed in the informal economy, where wages can be lower and labor protections less stringent. Addressing low wages typically involves improving education and skills training, investing in infrastructure, and strengthening labor rights and regulations.
  6. Is it just me or do others notice that those representing the right lean on selective memory, hyperbole and fabrications to make up for the lack of supporting facts?
  7. so you think we should re-adopt Neanderthal values and culture? Just discard the progress of many centuries .... typical right leaning wing nut thinking.
  8. The word "anyone" is nothing but complete fabrication. Did you break your glasses and are unable to read/watch any news for the last few weeks?
  9. Have you checked the terms and conditions for using your bank debit card outside the US? If you're using a Capital One MasterCard you won't be hit with a foreign transaction fee but most other banks do add that fee. It may not be so easy to spot that fee on your US bank statement as the bank may just lump it into the effective exchange rate. Below are the links to check the exchange rates for Visa and MasterCard. They update those rates each Tue-Sat about 7AM Thai time You can also see the rates for the recent past on these pages. To get the correct numbers on these pages you have to specify that you're changing Thai ฿ to US $ because the bank gave you ฿ and you want to see how many US $ will be withdrawn from your account. https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html?amount=1000&fee=0.0&utcConvertedDate=&exchangedate=01%2F03%2F2022&fromCurr=USD&toCurr=THB&submitButton= https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html
  10. You just need to tell yourself you aren't buying a smartphone.... you're getting a small computer for your pocket that makes phone calls and takes pictures. I used to use my iPhone for keeping my business records and doing some calculations on simple spread sheets. But, I agree that most smartphones are overkill for typical users and thus unnecessarily expensive. Smartphone software also typically has a too short lifespan. If you already have a LINE account, I think you can use a Chromium based browser and an extension to get most core LINE functionality.
  11. Perhaps you didn't learn anything, but I did and probably others. Please just speak for yourself only.
  12. LOL.... you really must be too lazy to do an actual analysis of the impact of reasonable firearm restrictions. You think it can all be boiled down to simpleton level statistics. ½ the firearm deaths are suicides.... it's too late to aim for restrictions that would have much impact on those deaths unless the firearm owners are willing to surrender them. A hail storm in Hell is more likely. An effective policy of firearm restrictions should start with focusing on those deaths that are the most easily prevented and assault rifle restrictions would most likely face the least resistance from the general population of firearm owners. Assault style rifles are by far the best candidates for restrictions based on the above listed factors.
  13. There seems to be close to ½ the US voters that have been insisting on zero compromise for decades. Nasty Newt started that trend.
  14. My memory is also weak lately. Who was in charge of the 401k portfolio from late 2021 to jan 2023? Did you have one of the three portfolio managers who don't know that rising interest rates negatively impact market valuations?
  15. You could spend a few dozens of hours learning how to have your laptop automatically process Line and WeChat messages and forward them to an SMS server (if such exist in Thailand). Rube Goldberg would have been very impressed by such efforts. just KISS it!
  16. It seems clear that you haven't really been paying much attention to the posters in these tax threads that have significant experience in tax matters. I can say that your post seems to rely only upon opinion from outraged but misinformed thread participants. I'm willing to wager that unless the TRD is taken over by PCP addicts, the things you've complained about won't be happening.
  17. ... who mostly vote in the GOP who want to decimate those benefits.... go figure 😳😳
  18. The person in question almost certainly is on a tourist visa and must work "under the table". Employers often take advantage of the illegal workers in terms of wages and working conditions.
  19. It's a Lvl brand gaming keyboard
  20. You have incorrectly attributed the quote you are responding to. @Fat is a type of crazy was not the author, @novacova was the author.
  21. lol.... Trump is especially good at negotiating with women... 555
  22. LOL... have you lost count of how many grand juries have recommended indictments against you orange hero? So far 3 indictments for Trump have been issued by grand juries. But, Arizona's grand jury also recommended indictment but the prosecutor has not yet done so. Just in case your knowledge of grand juries is as poor as most of your posts indicate (courtesy of chatgpt): A grand jury is a group of citizens selected to review evidence and determine whether there is enough probable cause to charge someone with a crime. Here's a general overview of who is typically on a grand jury: 1.Jurors: Grand juries usually consist of 16 to 23 jurors, depending on the jurisdiction. These individuals are selected from the community through a process similar to that used for trial juries, often involving random selection from voter registration lists or other public records. 2.Prosecutor: The prosecutor presents evidence and legal arguments to the grand jury. They are responsible for explaining the law and how the evidence supports the potential charges. 3.Judge: In some jurisdictions, a judge may oversee the grand jury proceedings to ensure they comply with legal standards, but they do not participate in the deliberations or vote. 4.Witnesses: During grand jury proceedings, witnesses may be called to testify. Their testimonies help the jurors understand the evidence related to the case. Grand juries operate in secrecy to protect the privacy of those involved and to encourage open and honest testimony. Their primary role is to determine whether there is enough evidence to formally charge someone with a crime, not to decide guilt or innocence.
  23. It's astonishing how backward looking the GOP is. Their thinking is stuck decades in the past. The GOP is constantly scaremongering about all the societal, economic and geo-political shifts that have already happened and will continue to do so despite their efforts.
  24. That's the part that makes his story so pathetic. It makes it obvious that RFKj is missing most of the characteristics that make a human a good leader. Instead it makes him an outstanding sycophant.
  25. The line of Tump contractors, lawyers and employees waiting to get paid is longer than that of the attendees at his recent rallies.
