  1. I live in CM and I logged into Wells Fargo just now through a browser without VPN. They have made a change to the login process. I now have to type in a 3 letter code that is displayed on the screen by numbers that are constantly moving.
  2. While on my scooter, I assume the cars have the right of way here ????
  3. Those cars with the GREEN light should. I believe the deference to those cars is written into the corresponding traffic rules in the US/Can and a better than average chance it is here as well.
  4. It seems the default is for the banks to withhold tax on all interest bearing accounts opened by non-Thai persons. There are two avenues open to stop or limit the withholding of taxes from your interest payments. If you get a yellow tabien baan book you can then get a pink ID card that is issued to foreigners. You can skip the yellow book/ID card and just go to a Revenue Department office with the required documents and get a Thai tax ID. With either the pink ID card or the tax ID you can then go to your banks and ask them to stop withholding tax from the interest earned. I have heard that once you have earned 20K ฿ in interest they will resume withholding the 15% for taxes. I believe that the banks will still withhold 15% from ALL interest on fixed deposit accounts. To get a refund of any of the money withheld you will have to file a Thai tax return. I'm not sure how many years you can go back to claim a refund of taxes withheld. If interest is your only taxable income earned in Thailand, you will most likely get all the tax withheld refunded because in addition to the 20K ฿ exemption there are other deductions that will further reduce your taxable income.
  5. I have used free online fax services to send forms to SSA. I later called and confirmed that SSA did receive them.
  6. I'll take those welcoming gestures with a kilo of salt. Other billionaires are happy to seem to be buddy, buddy with Musk hoping for future advantages from such a posture.
  7. I prefer saving that hospital like experience for those times that I actually need to be in one.
  8. This is the unfettered 21st Century, where everyone has their own facts (formerly known as gossip) thanks to Google/social media.
  9. As far as I know, only Mac OS has the capability you seek. Often what Mac does intrinsically can be achieved by using a third party app on Windows. https://www.macrumors.com/2021/06/09/airplay-mac-to-mac-external-display/
  10. I have often bought a quart of a color I find attractive and paint as big an area as I can with at least two coats depending on the color that I'm covering. Our perception of color is heavily influenced by it's context. You may want to start at one of these sites: https://www.easyrgb.com/en/create.php#inputFORM https://www.toagroup.com/th/palettes/color-wheel https://www.colorspire.com/rgb-color-wheel/ We went for some warm but somewhat bold colors in a previous home.
  11. Many are saying that satire is making a huge comeback. KUTGW

  13. @Onerak, your questions are best taken up with Wise.
  14. @bluebluewater can you identify which bank's ATM's you have used to make withdrawals with your Schwab card? OP seems to have extra charges only from certain ATM's.
  15. I have only used my Schwab card at a Bangkok Bank ATM in Dec '21. I was only charged the usual 220฿ fee which was fully refunded by Chuck. The fees were refunded at the same time the money was withdrawn from my Schwab account.
  16. I occasionally need to exchange funds with family, businesses and friends in a couple of countries where I otherwise don't have a banking presence. My Wise account works simply and efficiently for that purpose. Those interactions would be much more difficult with a typical financial institution in the US and probably a nightmare with a Thai bank.
  17. LOL ... that one zoomed way over your head! It seems very likely that he's not worried about the 65 cents... it was probably intended as just a test of the process. NOTE: he didn't transfer any money to Thailand which he would have done if that was his purpose.
  18. @Onerak If you have funds in your WISE account you can see the fees for sending up to your current balance. Login into Wise, click on "Send Money", on the next page you should see two options. Select the > symbol under the "Your Wise balance". The next page will show you the fees for sending to THB. If you try to send more than your current balance you will see that Wise will charge you additional fees for the transfer. The cheapest way to send money is by using the funds currently held in your Wise account. All other funding methods have added fees.
  19. yes... until they lay charges. The charging documents become accessible to the public, but not the tax filing(s) involved.
  20. There are two ways to start an ACH transfer. I have seen the methods referred to as Push and Pull. If you ask WISE to transfer from your bank to the "new" US$ account it will be a Pull transfer and WISE will charge a fee for that service. If you go to your bank and initiate a transfer to WISE it will be a Push transfer. Most banks charge no fee for that type of transfer and WISE will also not charge a fee to receive it.
  21. @cusanus From the SSA website: You can call our National 800 Number at 1-800-772-1213 between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Wait times to speak to a representative are typically shorter early in the day (between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. local time) or later in the afternoon (between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time). We are also less busy later in the week (Wednesday to Friday) and later in the month. We also offer many automated telephone services, available 24 hours a day, so you do not need to speak with a representative. The SSA answers calls during the above hours in you local timezone which is determined based upon your area code (PST for my GV #). When you add the *67 prefix, the call recipient doesn't see the telephone number you are calling from. In this case, it seems the SSA will answer your call based upon the time in their local timezone which is EST. If I called too early for PST region callers, adding *67 would cause SSA to answer based on the service hours in the EST region. I'm not 100% clear on how GV calls are delivered to POTS, but I don't think using a VPN will help in your case. When GV connects your call to POTS it is the area code that determines the region where the call originated not the source IP address of the GV data packets.
  22. Maybe.... Most.... probably.... couldn't This sounds like a very wobbly opinion based on hearsay. Maybe you're right but probably not.
  23. I bet they're trying to figure out how to sell points to someone who needs them. That would never be possible with your plan!
  24. I've done this exact dance for 2+ years over an issue of income missing from SSA's list of yearly earnings. The only positive result from phone calls is that the phone reps confirmed that they can see what I've sent to the SSA (letter and form 561). All reps promised to send one of those wonderful "internal messages". The only result from that is I now have significant evidence that black holes do exist.
