  1. How the hell do Thais get lottery numbers out of these things? 1 x snake 3 x cocks 2 x snake handlers 29 x day of the month ummmmm? 1 x broken heart? JACKPOT
  2. They ended up doing it today for free. When I asked on saturday they said they were on holiday so I needed to pay. However, I got the vibe that perhaps they were going to try to charge me for it regardless. This thread was just a pre-empt and I was also curious anyway about what happens in this situation. The conclusion I reach from two pages of chit chat is that there is no clear course of action or way to hold them accountable. There is a good point that it should be agreed upon when signing the contract. Since verbal agreements are worthless I would take it a step further and say it's reasonable to add it as a clause in the contract. This way they have some accountabilty and you have the right to forfeit the contract and leave.
  3. "DTV Holders STUNNED: New Rule Forces Surprise Expense!" I'm confused.
  4. I should have mentioned. Re-entered on the same multiple entry visa I had last time TM30 was filed, using a multiple entry re-entry permit.
  5. I have a 90-day report due in Phuket in about a week. It's only the second one at this address since I usually leave the country before 90 days. Last time, I also got a re-entry permit at the same time and can't quite remember the requirements for the 90-day report. Is it necessary to bring a copy of the completed TM30, or does it just need to be done? Additionally, I'm unsure whether the last report at this address, made prior to my re-entering Thailand, is still valid. I've read conflicting information. I attempted to complete the report online but received an email stating: "For first-time requests of a 90-day notification in each country visit, in-person presentation at the immigration office is required." Last time, the landlord (an agent representing a condo owner) was efficient and handled the process promptly. However, this time they're asking me to pay them to do it. Legally, it is the landlord's responsibility to submit the TM30, and they can (apparently) be fined 800 - 2000 baht if they fail to do so. In my view, asking for payment for a service they are required to perform is exploitative and borders on extortion. Has anyone else experienced this? What is the best course of action? I'm considering seeking legal advice but wanted to check if there's an easier solution. I should mention that I've seen signs about TM30 reporting in the condo lift before but haven't looked closely. Is it possible the condo management can handle the TM30 reporting and bypass the landlord? I plan to ask them later today.
  6. I read a report on here yesterday morning. It was either in this thread or the other thread. I can't be bothered looking for it. The guy mentioned just having 1 medical appointment and receiving the visa.
  7. Wouldn't it be nice if they just released the specific documents required and the specifics of those documents so we didn't have to have a 100 page discussion trying to figure it out for ourselves.
  8. Momentarily. Until next week.
  9. How did you contact them? I contacted by email and received this. But then I see they have a contact form on the appointment page which I haven't tried.
  10. I wrote to them at Laos asking them to clarify the Freelancer documents needed. Received a generic reply pointing me back the little cartoony image that they all use. I wasn't expecting a reply but sometimes you get lucky. So "porfessional portfolio" is as specific as it gets for now I suppose. I might just bite the bullet and go and take the 10,000 baht gamble and find out.
  11. You can import them but when I researched getting a knife sent from Tower Knives in Japan I found I might end up paying somewhere upto 50% import tax. I think if you import the blades alone and fit the handles in Thailand you can maybe cut most of that tax out as it becomes a part. But i'm not certain. This is what Cutboy in bkk do. Thailand has good options itself though. I would just shop at Cutboy in bkk. The owner Sam seaks good English and you can buy them online no worries. He has displays in Pattaya, Sydney, Bkk, Seacon Square and Malaysia or somewhere. Probably more now. Miyabi is another decent brand for more of a mass produced mainstream knife. Zwiling henckels shop in Bkk have a range of them last I checked and are quite responsive to messages. They have a nice birchwood set if you can find it. Global - I also have and they are also good knives. Particularly the G-2 which has been popular as long as I have been a Chef. 24 years + now. Good knives but I don't think I have ever seen them in Thailand. Maybe once years ago in Bkk but I forget where. I have seen them sold online but I suspected they were fakes. They are probably somewhere though. Another interesting option is to make it yourself. There are a couple of courses in Bangkok where you can spend a day with a knifesmith guy and he will teach you how to make a knife. You leave at the end with your own knife. I saw the pictures and it looked really cool. Really Cutboy is by far the best option though to be honest.
  12. Please let us stay so we can poo all over your country. In one way or another. Immigration in a nutshell.
  13. According to publicly available info on LinkedIn a former US marine that was teaching English in Thailand and living in Krabi.
  14. If you find out the answer of the freelancer docs required let me know. I'm wondering the same. Also looking at your Medium you might want to reconsider the description "Jourdan is a washed-up tech writer and failed freelancer writer who sometimes writes essays for no money." If this is the basis you are providing to immigration to live in the kingdom for 5 years haha
  15. Ok thanks. Sounds like a pain in the butt. Good info anyway
  16. Thanks. Yeh I just saw this on the canberra embassy. So I suppose applying for it from Laos with no Laos documents would be problematic.
  17. What if you have a multiple entry re-entry permit and you want to scrap it?
  18. Seems like it is early days and nobody knows wtf is going on. The website itself functions which is quite a surprise but despite that it's amazing how much of the details are not clear at all. The website has no real details on what specific documents are needed. I begun an application purely to see what documents it requested and it is no clearer than before. I'm not sure even visa agents know wtf is going on. None of the websites I went to had any updates on the DTV. The Thaigers own page on it somehow manages to construct a full page story repeating the same paragraph about 10 times with no real specific information other than the basics of what has been known for weeks now. Someone wrote in these forums a couple of days ago that it is only extendable once? I assumed it would be as many 180 day entries as you like within the 5 year period? There is already a pinned thread on this but I really hope that someone can put a more specific guide together somewhere on the internet without all the noise, chatter and speculation. I was actually thinking to post a similar thread to the op as I have a developer portfolio but have no idea if it is a pass or not. 10,000 baht is quite a fee to gamble just to find out. The website seems to indicate showing a portfolio of some kind is enough but then elsewhere it says a "verifiable contract of employment" is required. "Dcoument indicating current location" - What is it. What is accepted. Who knows? If you do the Muay Thai or cooking route what is needed? A document saying you have paid for 6 months of classes or a few weeks? What document? I guess it will all come out in time. This is the last page of the application process for the digital nomad/ freelancer category.
  19. That's strange. Wheres the 10 moto taxi guys appearing out of nowhere for this one. I guess they only come out when it is 10 of them vs 2.
  20. I doubt some immigration staff will be happy with this. Less bureaucracy means less extensions, less processing, less visa runs, less cash for their pockets.
  21. I liked the world better before the internet.
  22. If this were 2 Thais it wouldn't even be worth recording for the sly person filming. It would be a fart in the wind. Not national news headlines.
