Report Traffic Violations for Cash Rewards, Say Thai Police
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I like to report the police on the Sukhumvit Asoke junction. All the time motorcycle riders ignore the red light, maybe at least 20 every few minutes. The police see this and do nothing. What's the point of having police officers who don't do their jobs? -
Maybe you are correct with those averages, but does it matter? There are lots of high IQ and low IQ in any race and country. Same for athletic and other differences. Culture is something different. When I talk to someone who grew up in the same area and with the same language where I grew up, they we will able to understand each other better compared to someone who grew up in a different culture, far away. And that is independent of IQ, etc.

That is what come to my mind when the national football team wins, or "we" have so many medals in the Olympics. How much did all those people sitting in front of their TV do for these successes?

Please change the title to White Culture in USA. That is not the same as White Culture somewhere else. I don't think there is something like universal White Culture.

Linear actuators? Quality criteria? Where to buy?
OneMoreFarang replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in DIY Forum
Thanks. There is always one street in Chinatown with whatever we are looking for. We only need to know which street.. I will certainly go there to have a look. I agree, it's always better to see things like that in real life. -
I think about building a TV stand with linear actuators. The idea is that the TV is near the floor when it is not used and is pushed about 80cm up vertically if I want to watch it. I would build such a stand with aluminium profiles 3030 or similar. The TV weights 20kg. According to AI two actuators with each 200N should do the job. I looked in Lazada and they have i.e. this model. This is up to 450mm long, maybe that is good enough for me and I can use two on each side. JS-TGZ-U1 Linear Actuator Electric DC Motor 30mm/s 300N 12VDC IP45 Actuator | Lazada.co.th Cost for the 450mm version is 1,173THB. I am familiar with electronics, Arduino, etc. I am sure I will be able to wire them up and remote control them. Did anybody here use those things before? What are the quality criteria? If I want to use these in average not even 10 times per day, is this "Made in China" good enough? Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

I don't feel like laughing that about 70,000,000 Americans want that guy as their next president. And there is a 50/50 chance he will win. It would be bad enough if people in some banana republic would vote for such an idiot. But the most powerful nation on the earth with that guy in charge. It would be unbelievable if it wouldn't be so real.

What is the best way to watch old movies at home in Thailand?
OneMoreFarang replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Entertainment
Thanks. I just tried above movies, and it seems all are available on Apple TV. Maybe I should try that one. -
Guys, do you cheat on your Thai wife/girlfriend?

Do whatever you want and are sure you can get away with. And never, ever, tell your gf about it. -
EV charging outlets in condos
OneMoreFarang replied to jippytum's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Sure, they look like a good idea. Obviously, there are still questions how long they would last but I am sure that could be managed and improved. Unfortunately, I guess it will take a long time before such things would be available in Thai fire stations. And how many of them would be ready if they need them. Maybe every condominium should have them stored near, but not too near, to charging stations. -

Good idea. I wonder how many of such fire blankets exist in Thailand... -

Personally I would prefer to be in the middle of a modern nuclear power plant compared to in the middle of a lithium battery charging station - especially if the area of that charging station was never designed for that kind of use. Personally, I don't have much hope that lithium batteries will be somehow safe in the future. -

What is the relation? Were there any incidents when Thais destroyed any shops? Are they also related? -
I stayed in one apartment for many years. There was certainly some repair to be done when I left. Was this normal use? Or am I responsible for the damage? I guess part/part. I didn't pay the last month rent and didn't expect to get the deposit back. I rented the next apartment for about 2 years. I returned it as good as I received it. I got my whole deposit back. I guess in part it has to do with us and our attitude and in part with the owner. And then obviously possible damages. If people behave like they have to fight the owner than they should not be surprised if the owner also fights. In my case, with my second apartment, I cleaned it thoroughly and agreed with the owner when she will inspect it. She inspected it and didn't find any problems. And then I asked her about the return of my deposit, and she agreed and deposited it to my account in the next days. If I would have told her: I want my deposit back now, otherwise I won't even clean the place, then I guess she would not have returned the money.

EV fires are a big issue. Obviously, you can decide to ignore information about those fires. But some of us like to remind the EV fanboys that there are significant risks. Personally, I have no problem with electric vehicles in general. They certainly have advantages. But that fact should not keep us away from seeing also their problems. -

That reminds me of when I was a teenager and had a motorcycle. I modified the exhaust and air filter. That didn't make the bike faster, but with all that noise I was convinced it is a lot faster - and obviously more fun. -

Thai Baht is ruining my retirement
OneMoreFarang replied to Jerry777's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
Yes, I know that. And yes, I understand that it would be wonderful if the exchange rate would be on a high level and never change. But that is not the case. And that should be obvious for everyone who even thinks about living in Thailand. So, what's the point of worrying or arguing about it. It won't change. It's like complaining about the climate in Thailand. It's hot and wet. Accept it. There is no point to argue or moan about it. -

Is it really so difficult to understand? ICE fires are relatively easy to control. Use water. Problem solved. Lithium battery fires are very difficult to control. Fire fighters need special equipment to do that. The common "solution" seems to be in the moment: Just let it burn until there is nothing to burn anymore. Water is not suitable to fight lithium battery fires. So even if there are a lot less battery fires, it is almost impossible to fight these fires. 10 burning ICE cars, no problem, just use enough water. One lithium battery fire. BIG problem. -
Tipping Grab Food Delivery Driver
OneMoreFarang replied to AsiaTraveler1234's topic in General Topics
Correct. But 15 times 20B = 300B which is the minimum salary which many people receive. So, if a delivery driver gets only 20B tip per delivery and he delivers only 2 times per hour all day long then he still makes 2x8x20=320THB tip. -
Tipping Grab Food Delivery Driver
OneMoreFarang replied to AsiaTraveler1234's topic in General Topics
I tip in restaurants and bars, taxi and in traditional massage places. I don't tip at gasoline stations, street food vendors, market vendors, and for food delivery. Why? I never thought much about it. But I guess the easiest explanation is that someone at the gas station or the food delivery just does his job. There is not much do to better than average. In the places where I tip the interaction takes time, and it can make a big difference how good the service is. This is why I tip in those places when the service is good enough. Seldom I don't tip, if they do a bad job.
