Koh Samui Businesses Call for More Flights to the Island
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Sounds like Khun Ratchaporn is expecting financial support for independant hotels. The reason many of them closed is because they were indebted to the banks and couldn't pay their loans when Covid hit. Mass transport networks? Such as what? Trains? Bus services? Dream on. pre Covid, they had a small bus service from the airport. That stopped. I have recently seen the buses parked up here and there, but don't think the service has restarted. So many other problems need fixing first. Electricity, water, waste disposal, sewage, flooded roads whenever heavy rain. They can't even get the traffic lights to work. -
What Sunscreen Do You Use and Why Do You Like Your Brand?
phetphet replied to connda's topic in General Topics
I hate the oily feeling of suncream. I did use Banana Boat SPF50 for a while, but then found a Nivea SPF50 that was also oil free. Or at least didn't give that oily sticky feeling. -
Yingluck or Michelle Yeoh? Netizens debate who's the best looking
phetphet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Michelle Yeoh was on the Graham Norton Show a couple of weeks ago. Apparently her mother pushed her to enter the Miss Malaysia Contest and she won. But what surprised me most was that she did her own motorcycle stunts in a movie with Jackie Chan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKA3FPcPAM -
There are gullible people everywhere. She might just have been desperate for someone to be with.

Nationwide Banking App
phetphet replied to LittleBear57's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Seeing as you are looking for more options, you could try using Wise. presuming you have a Thai bank account. If you have internet banking, you may be able to transfer to Wise in the UK, then let them send the money to your bank account here. -
While I can understand Russian men wanting to avoid conscription. The term refugee is a bit strong. Russia is not at war, but engaging in a 'Special Military Operation.' So many coming that they have pushed property rental rates up 300% in Phuket? And now own a large portion of the condo market there? The same in other tourist centres. They don't sound like refugees to me. Not even economic migrants. Well off expats is perhaps more accurate. And let's face it. Thailand isn't doing this out of the goodness of their heart. This is a money boost.

I like thigh food! (As a test on a first date)
phetphet replied to Jingthing's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
When I saw the title "I like Thigh food", I thought this was about one of those Nyotaimori restaurants in Bangkok. -
We might all be guilty of breaking some road rules, but Thais are in a different class. You only have to look at the history and number of accidents here. People smashing into parked vehicles at high speed, smashing into vehicles stopped at traffic lights, driving on the wrong side of the road. They seem to have a total lack of spatial awareness.

Thailand Listed No. 4 Among Most Affordable Destinations

$21 for hotel and $14 for food / day? They must be really living it up. -
Taxi is easier if travelling with heavy luggage, and tired after a long journey. Just sit back and relax. But I suppose it depends on the route taken by the taxi driver and the traffic. 17:30 is rush hour. If they come in on the Expressway and exit by Asok or Ploenchit, you could get stuck in heavy traffic for a while. Train will require a couple of changes on BTS I think and you still might have to get a taxi at the other end. Personally, I would take this train option: Train to Makkasan, change to MRT to Silom, exit and take a taxi from there.

I had two retinal tears diagnosed while having a check up at Rutnin. The doctor took me upstairs immediately and repaired them both with laser. After treatment, I left the hospital, and even managed to catch my flight back to Samui. No exercise or anything strenuous for a month, then back for a check up. Next check up in June. I think everything, eye test, check up and laser treatment came to about 15,000THB. Might be cheaper than flying back to Moorfields. After all, Rutnin is an eye hospital as well.

Wise or swift
phetphet replied to Harveyboy's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If you have told Barclays that you no longer live in the UK, or that you no longer have a UK address, that is where your problem started. if you have family or a trusted friend that will allow you to use their address, you may be able to open a new account with another bank. Although it depends on what proof of address documents they ask for. Another alternative might be (if you do have a UK address that you can use), is to just go into your local bank branch and change your current registered address to that one. Take ID and they might not ask for proof of address that way. Just a suggestion.
