Any election will end the present PM rule. This country's problem is that it votes for figureheads and is used to being ruled by the military. I think the best thing for this country would be a minority PT government, with the second big party being Move Forward if these 2 parties work together, MF would get a chance to get its feet wet in the cabinet world. It would also prevent the PT from ruling without any leash. A win that gives any party full control of the government is going to be bad for Thailand.

You forget all the corruption that was caused by the scheme. Also, farmers did not do as well as you think they did. If they had they would have voted in the PT. The problem is that the PT wants to lead the country with a girl that has no political or business knowledge but is the mouth piece for her dad. Every party has promised great things I can remember the great deal that the Dems offered for the tax rebate is you bought a new car. Sounded great people were going to get 200K Problem was that people that could not afford cars bought them. When they could not make the payments, they were repossessed then the tax man denied them the money. PT has promised great things to remember the iPad for every student. going to bring prosperity to the farmers with rice production. The people of Thailand need to wake up and not look at the shiny pie in the sky but at what this country actually needs. A party that tells it like it is and a party that promises to be corruption free and sticks to it. As much as that is what the U.S. needs. There is a definite need for a new party in teh the U.S. as well. How do you become a multi-millionaire being an elected person.

Remember this is the same party that promised to buy all the rice at a set price. Remember how that worked out. A 25k guaranteed wage will make BA grads unemployable. Yes some businesses may hire a few but there will be more that will not. The wage will make them unemployable at hotels tourism locations and rotten Ronny and other fast food or stores.

The GF has set up a good business. She owns our house and I am wondering if there are any advantages to her setting up as a personal business tax-wise. I know in most countries you can deduct room space and heat and hydro. Can anyone direct me to where I can get information on what she could do? To me, this is the best way for a Thai to save money.

Is detention on a Saturday legal in Thal schools?
kingstonkid replied to Smee's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
Maybe this is a wake-up for you and the Mrs as well as your child. Life is made of commitments. One of them is if you are supposed to be somewhere at a specific time you are there. Someone working for me that was continually late would have a special greeting at the door in the form of a pink piece of paper. SORRY BUT Again this is not a school problem but is a mom and dad issue to me. -
Private sector against Pheu Thai’s 600-baht minimum wage proposal
kingstonkid replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
25,000 minimum wae for a BA graduate. To me, that is going to kill many people from getting a job. You can not guarantee a wage like that nationally. These kids are having trouble finding jobs now imagine a girl going to a bar as a waitress she is an absolute stunner all real, no plastic, big smile definitely will bring in the punters. The owner goes to hire her and then asks her what her education is, and she says I just graduated from Issan U with a BA in basket weaving. Not even Rotten Ronny will be able to hire them. That means that schools will not be able to hire teachers either because the government does not give them enough money -

This has nothing to do with slavery but if you think it does not exist in the U.S., take a look at all the sweatshops that exist. Or in the U.K. the slaughterhouses. The bottom line is that the West. used to be producing countries now it is consuming. If you want proof look at all the issues the world had with getting TP, thermometers and medical supplies during covid. Why is the west having trouble getting chips for computers? Now getting to Thailand, If I had 100 baht for every time someone here complains about the price of a beer or the price of anything related to tourism I would be one of the richest people in the country. People complain because Thailand is too expensive and pricing itself out of the tourism market. Have you lived in any other countries other than your home country and Thailand? The bottom line no matter what country you live in is that there will always be rich and there will always be poor. No matter how much you raise the wages this is a given. Wages are set by what the market allows. BTW you say that western countries' are so good How many people could have a good life living off of 7.25 an hour on a 40 hour week in the U.s. 9.50 pound 12,00 EU in germany $21.38 per hour or $812.60 per 38 hour week The challenge in Thailand is not the minimum wage as much as it is the minimum skill level of Thais. I agree there are trades that are underpaid especially teachers, but I would love to see the percentage of people in Bangkok working real jobs not associated with the bars and tourist businesses that are making minimum wage. It is great to raise the wages in a country the challenge is that companies then look at other areas and decide that based on education and skill level country X is just as qualified therefore if money is better they move. -

The problem with your thinking is that you are not living in the right era. Let me ask this. Why do most large American companies hire Indian, Philippine or other English speaking outside of N.A. for call centers. Why is almost nothing mas manufactured in England, E.U. Canada or the United States? Why is Thailand no longer making any of the clothes that they used to Wacoal and other thai lingerie companies have had to leave Thailand? Why is China the biggest country for producing things? The answer is the same they priced themselves out of the market. The biggest proof of that is the North American auto industry. with the wages, benefits and medical plans that these companies got it reached a point where the sale of a car did not replace the amount that the company paid on benefits for retired people. The more you raise wages and benefits, the more a company needs to spend, and the easier it is for someone else too out bid them. You talk about migrants coming into Thailand and taking jobs from Thais. I think you need to look at the U.S. Why do you think there is an open border at the south? Who do you think is washing the dishes cleaning the rooms, and bussing the tables? If it was not for some of the unions who do you think would be doing most of the construction? -
Is detention on a Saturday legal in Thal schools?
kingstonkid replied to Smee's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
A lot of the schools around here have classes on Saturday or after school if students are not performing well or are getting ready for mat 1 or ONET tests As stated, I would be more concerned about the WHY than the what. Teachers do not like to work more than they have to in any country, especially for free. Am willing to bet that you do not have the TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND THE REAL TRUTH. If it were my son and he she was screwing up my Saturday, I would be looking at the why and then punishing him/her again. This is the biggest problem with schools and education. Parents care more about the can they do this, and they should not be doing this to my son/daughter and not correcting the action that got them in trouble. -

UPS vs Fedex vs USPS for sending documents from USA to BKK
kingstonkid replied to lowp's topic in General Topics
I used FedEx while going through my divorce in Canada. No issues sending or receiving. If I am sending to a Po box use Thai post. Not had any problems. Ups is not a big company and Canada post is hard to track I imagine USPS would ythe same. -

Thaksin’s Homecoming Bid May Fall Through Without Help From Kingmaker
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There is little chance of that happening. Remember that wanting to bring back brothr was one of the reasons that Yingluck got the boot. There really is no reason for him or her to come back. The family businesses are doing well and the money is flowing. As a convicted criminal They can not run for government. Thaksin is nothing more than a distraction. This country needs to move on from the old guard and bring in a new one. -
Imgine how much <deleted> they would get if they set this up on the Chao Praya.

There are rare occurrences however, yo have have realize that schools are told what the pay range for the teacher is defined. The deal here is that the good teachers go to better locations. They realize that there is a limit to what schools will pay. It is no different than if you were a teacher in the UK, Germany, Canada or the U.S> as a matter of fact there is no country where teachers are "paid what they are worth". Personally I would rather see them raise the wages of Thai teachers before they do anything with NES.
