The average Frenchman probably earns 10x that of a Thai. Naive to compare western attractions/prices to a developing country like that. Main reasons are money, covid restrictions and hassles at airports etc, and the fact that when Europeans traditionally book their summer holidays Thailand was still heavily restricted.

Yes, wonder if potential low flow/high ambient temp is causing the ‘kettles’ to continually overheat… Also, when connected to the tap, these things are typically on and off very frequently. 8kw seems high, especially for that area. Had 6kw Panasonics in Chiangmai which easily coped in cool season.

Yes, Thai females are generally conservative and tend to hold back emotion/surprise etc… potential for loss of face of either party and all that. Not necessarily those that have spent lots of time around foreigners. Folk that baulk at this revelation probably don’t understand the culture very well. Basic stuff.

The op is after info for a quiet stay in Bangkok, not boorish, one-eyed misleading tat on Chiang Mai. Dear me. Suggest looking at older Bangkok near the big palaces and river. Some great hotels, leafy parks and cafes. Beautiful ladies in abundance. Great city.

It's alright. Well covered already above, but did notice quite a few expats last month... easy immigration office for those guys. The digs certainly weren't full then but some of the bars on walking street were busy. Good to see Pai still ticking over (still has the backpacker vibe); some really good eating to be had still... Ganita cafe is outstanding.
