Thailand going cashless. Are you for or against it?
Dmaxdan replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
In rural areas cash is king. And will be for the foreseeable future. Farm laborers are paid in cash and then go and spend that cash in the local markets. Many people don't even have bank accounts. Probably the entire population over 50 will have to die out before Thailand can even consider going cashless. -

Thai soccer fans will get to see all the 64 World Cup soccer matches
Dmaxdan replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Was this really ever in doubt? I reckon the deal was done weeks ago but by announcing it at the eleventh hour just means everyone involved now looks like a real hero. Pats on the back all round....- 129 replies

Normally the money is collected when you attend the actual funeral. There will be a table manned by several people taking the payments and you get a written out receipt. But also you can pay at a later date. For this you have to go to the house of the person has been given the responsibility to collect the money. Once again you will be given a receipt.

We have never had a bill like that but we do have to pay 150 baht everytime someone dies in our village. Even if they live elsewhere but are connected to a local family, we still have to pay. It's all about helping to fund the funeral. My understanding is that this procedure is normal for Thailand. Although these schemes may vary from region to region with regards to how much you have to pay etc.

Lazada and Shopee Poll....How often do you order online...
Dmaxdan replied to redwood1's topic in General Topics
I order quite a bit online these days, certainly more than I used to. It was during the early part of the pandemic that I changed my shopping habits and have never looked back. These days I really only visit an actual supermarket about once a month. -
Did it ever occur to you that you were probably the only person who lives locally that wasn't invited? If it's anything like the village where I live, literally everyone is up and about long before the sun comes up, included us.

Yes I did pay for an express service that cost me 1050 baht for 5 sheets of A4 paper! I'm sorry but 12 days is a complete joke especially when you take into account that the tracking stated it arrived at Suvarnabhumi the same day I posted it! I then had to wait a week before there was a new update on the tracking.

From recent experience it's not exactly quick. Last month I sent some documents to the UK using EMS. It cost 1050 baht and took 12 days to arrive at it's final destination. Not so much express mail service and more snail mail...

Were the packages of food still cold to the touch when you first discovered your freezer being open? Because if they were then there is no reason why you couldn't have cooked and eaten the sausages and fish fingers rather than just disposing of them. As others have stated, refreezing is a big no no but we defrost, cook and eat food from the freezer all the time.

First order on Lazada - what to expect when it comes to delivery ?
Dmaxdan replied to Baron Samedi's topic in General Topics
From my experience, some delivery's can arrive quite late in the day. So don't start panicking if 5pm has been and gone and your package still hasn't been delivered. A 7pm delivery is not unheard of if they are busy, or the driver fancies a pit stop for a beer on route. If it's Lazada's own delivery service (LEX TH) they will send you a message on the app that the package will arrive within the next hour. If you're paying cash on delivery then make sure you have to exact amount ready to give to the courier. -
How will Christmas be for you this year ?
Dmaxdan replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Our 7 year old grandson lives with us and has been asking me "Dad, is it Christmas yet" for most of this year! We do have a small tree that goes up every year. And we normally have a small party in the evening for close friends and family. But we don't eat traditional fair such as roast turkey or figgy pudding. Although, this year I'm considering having a go at baking some mince pies. -
Yes we are heading into the cool season up here in CM but I can't imagine a scenario where you could possibly need a heater in your car. Not unless you are planning on living at the top of Doi Inthanon. It would probably be easier to just buy yourself a good quality sweater.

Is the World Cup on free to air TV in Thailand
Dmaxdan replied to Marcomilton7's topic in General Topics
It always has been in the past. It may be as late as a few days before it kicks off before we learn whether it will be screened and which channels will have the rights. -
Good for her. By speaking her mind like this she has proven that she has more courage than all of the Thai government put together.

Just for the record, I have now obtained my bank statement in English. I was instructed to go to the branch where I originally opened the account. Actually in my case that particular branch has since closed so I had to find the one I'm now registered at. Once there they changed my address to English on the system which involved signing a couple of forms and a fair amount of faffing about. Once that was completed I was rewarded with a statement with with my address in English. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help????
