  1. When I first came to Thailand I was amazed at the security bars and fences on low-cost housing units everywhere. I always assumed they must be a truly dishonest lot if break-ins and cat-burglary were such a problem. Only after visiting Lopburi did I realise that, mostly, human burglars are not the problem......
  2. What is "a double decker minibus" and when was such a thing ever seen in Soi Buakhao?
  3. Time to turf out the lot of them, and bring in Scotland Yard........ oh sorry, seems they are just as bad......!
  4. Can someone please remind me how to ignore certain users? I am sure it used to be possible, but I can't find the place to do it.
  5. Wrong. I have installed ours three times now, in different homes, all rebated into the counter top, no additional support required. The unit is twenty years old, the glass is getting a bit dull where the pans rub, otherwise as good as new. I did have to fit a new motherboard as PEA managed to burn it out, once.
  6. No one can get fat on an airline meal..... or even on two!
  7. When I took my first commercial flight, at the age of seven, in a Dakota, one of the pilots moved passengers about before take off. Mainly, as the plane was not full, he moved people forward from the rear seats.
  8. Where is 006½ when you need him? Or the A-team..... Mission impossibe....... Superman......
  9. 1 million baht or 22years in jail? No competition. I am always amazed at the prescribed maximum penalties in Thai law. Years are valued at peanuts! Poor people are stuffed, the rich just pay. Oh, sorry, you had already noticed....
  10. They use US gallons. In military usage "US" stands for "UnServiceable", i.e. useless.
  11. Well what about the Thai method? How any delivery person ever finds the destination is a mystery to me. Sometimes it's a mystery to them too......stuff doesn't make it, or needs a dozen phone calls plus Google maps.
  12. The UK sells plasterboard (gyproc sheet) in Imperial length and metric width (8'*2400mm). Makes fitting them difficult, sometimes.
  13. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, e.g. warfarin, make sure:- a. that the dentist knows you are taking them, b. that he understands the associated risks (many it seems do not), c. that he advises you to stop taking them a few days before surgery....with specialist medical advice if necessary. I know an octogenarian who nearly bled out in bed, the night following initial implant surgery. The dentist was told about his medication, but did nothing to address the risk. Poor professional training.
  14. They are so full of fertiliser they don't have room for any more!????
  15. I have a useful, all-encompassing and pertinent Irish answer for you:- "We...e...ell, to be sure, if I was after going to be going there, I certainly wouldn't be after starting from here!" I am sure this will be as helpful as 99.99% of the other answers on here.
  16. It's somewhere to keep Thaksin behind bars.....
  17. Purple bank.
  18. A couple of days ago, Mrs Grusa got an SMS from our bank, telling her her credit card was expiring at the end of the month, that a new one had been posted out on September 2nd, and giving a tracking number. Sure enough, her card does expire when stated. I followed up the tracking number, on both 17track and Thailand Post, both said the same thing: the package was despatched on 2nd June from Samurai Prakan, tracked through LakSi, and delivered and signed for on 8th June, in Khlung. Which, by the way is in Tray province.... we live in Sattahip! The following day I checked again, all that detail remained, plus a new entry, despatched from Samut Prakan 02/09. So, I wondered, does Thailand Post recycle its tracking numbers? Today I got a similar SMS from the bank for my credit card, with a different tracking number. Same story, same dates, but this one delivered to Tha Mai.... Chantaburi province, I think. And again, a new despatch date corresponding to the SMS. I have never before encountered a re-used tracking number. Is this common, and how long does the expired meta-data persist? It seems very poor security. And coincidence two items to two separate people, but from one financial institution......
