Coin Counters - What to do with spare change?
alien365 replied to EVENKEEL's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I took about 5,000 baht in 10 baht coins to ttb and the lady counted every single one of them. I wasn't expecting that in this day and age. What made things worse is that for every 100 baht (I think), she had to put them in the small plastic bags. I just give them to the in laws now to spend at the local market. -
Small centipede bite...Good God was that painful!
alien365 replied to lordgrinz's topic in Health and Medicine
Do you also call footwear feet gloves? Back to the topic though the main place I see centipedes is around the sandals/shoes outside. I always give them a quick kick in case one is hiding. I learned quickly not to pick the shoes up as an adult one went for me. I've found them very difficult to kill. I usually use a hoe, but it's still difficult to detach the head. -
Thanks for the suggestions Proton. As I live in Central Thailand, nobody really knows of a Northern music scene as such. With quite a few expats living in that area I hope some will be able to explain further. Even isaan music is not that popular in my province, but I'm finding lots of that on YouTube. As you seem really into your music and you have shared a few of her songs, here's a cover of a classic that I think Lamyai sings very well. She also looks very cute.

Does anyone have any recommendations of modern-ish Northern Thai music?
-
Thanks. It's nice to know the name of the genre. I've only heard the following song by Baowee before which I thinks quite catchy.
-
I thought I'd share one that was recommended to me recently. I rather enjoyed it. I'm also not sure what the rules are here. Can we ask for translations to certain parts? There's a different song I like, but I and Google translate dont understand some of the lyrics.

Cabinet cuts excise tax on diesel by a baht per litre for three months
alien365 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It's now the 20th and diesel is still the same price as before. Did they change their minds? -
2 Polish women apologise for sunbathing in Chiang Mai temple
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
If you genuinely believe these girls intended to offend and not comply then you are deluded. This is a modern equivalent of a witch hunt and a completely over the top reaction to what could have been resolved on the spot. The person who reported this should hang their head in shame. Buddha would be very disappointed in their actions. -
To the left I have a very quiet man living with his mum. I'm not sure what he does but his brother owns a 7-eleven. In front we have a loan shark who is nice (we have no problems and occasionally have a drink together, give each other food etc). Behind we have a family of locusts. They just like to take over any space possible, make a complete mess, smell, and noise, and we often have to call the police as they try to 'own' the end of the street. They have 2 pick up trucks, a Jazz, an mg-ZS, and old corolla and about 4 bikes. All in a small house at the end of a soi. Three different families with two or three generations of each living in a 3 bed house. They sell grilled chicken and pork balls. There's very few people I wish bad things to, but I'm waiting for these to get wiped out in an accident. Naturally, the men are generally drunk, so it's only a matter of time.

Thai Exchanges Lost Their Edge
alien365 replied to MangoKorat's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Taking away the bank account comment, his message was that wise is the best method for transfers, which I thought was what you were pointing out too. I agree with your point about super rich though. It's no longer 'super' for rates nor worth the trip. I'm in a slightly different boat to you guys as I now only really transfer THB into a UK bank account. Unfortunately I could never get Wise to make transfers the opposite way round and I ended up using Western Union. The end result is pretty much the same as what the Thai banks offer me, but I find it easier and clearer to transfer. -
Thai Exchanges Lost Their Edge
alien365 replied to MangoKorat's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Sure. Stop being such a child. His main point actually agreed with yours, yet you chose to unreasonably escalate things. -
I wonder how many of these were actually drunk, or were they just over the legal limit (which is about 50% less than the UK limit). One beer here with a meal and you may be over. In provinces with virtually no public transport system, it's not surprising that people don't care. They have no alternative transport and they certainly won't stop drinking.

PART 2 Thai Wife Being Bullied By Family
alien365 replied to thefarangteacher's topic in Marriage and Divorce
To share a relatively similar story with you, I live with the MIL and FIL and I give them money to buy food each month, which is about 4,000 baht now. I was about the same age as you when I started, so I'm surprised 2k per month is an issue. We never had a wedding celebration either. Anyway, the extended family were getting money from my wife until I asked why she was giving them money when they're not her responsibility. She stopped the payments and a few years after they got the MIL to sign something (she can't read), which signed her part of the family land away. We've now lost that land but at the same time we have cut all ties with them. They will lose the land eventually too as they will naturally get into more debt and be left with nothing, which is what they deserve. I've been more of a family to my wife and her mum than her blood relatives will ever be. There's no real regrets from my wife as she now knows who they really are: parasites. From stopping the money she sent to the extended family, we've now saved about 400,000 baht over the last 10 years. If your wife does get cut out of the inheritance, there's a potential you will save more from parting ways with them anyway. Claws will be out when there's money to be had after a death and they won't play nicely. -
What Car would you buy now sub 800k Baht
alien365 replied to tigerbeer's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
It depends how you feel about cars. My recent car was not the sensible choice, but it was what the heart wanted. If you want a sensible city car (as you said you already have a captiva) just get the little Neta V and save yourself 300k. It doesn't float my boat, but it fits your situation if you have the possibility for home charging. -
It sounds like the OP goes for regular testing already and has already stated he is generally considered healthy. Further tests just sound superfluous and may potentially have a detrimental effect on him. Each to their own though.

Thai teenage boy accidentally shoots and kills friend near Bangkok
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
They took a gun to fire on another group. I'm actually happier that he killed one of his own. His stupid actions will hurt him more this way. -
Out of interest, is doing all these tests going to ultimately increase your health insurance premiums and make insurance more difficult to obtain when older? If you do every test under the sun they'll eventually find something.
-
It depends on what you see insurance is for. Generally, it's meant to be protection from unforeseen events. Falling down stairs drunk is not unforeseen, having an accident on a moped in a foreign country without proper knowledge or protection is not unforeseen. That's also why insurers want to know about medical history, so any preexisting condition will incur a higher premium. Ultimately with insurance, you get what you pay for.

Am I the only one here because I thought your thread would be about coffee? I was expecting to read a question about roasting dates, degassing or expiry dates...

Thais don't walk (it's hot and some are lazy). They will double or even triple park in my area to avoid this, particularly for banks, local markets and schools. Pretty much every day at our big market the police are stopping sellers from spreading onto the roads and trying to deal with the parking, but the locals don't care.
-
I'll probably be laughed at, but in my province I think the police should stop with all these road blocks scattered around and provide a free local taxi service to the public. Taxis are near non existent here as is other public transportation. I'm not saying it would stop all accidents, but its better than sitting on their behinds and setting up checkpoints that people avoid anyway.
