  1. ''The U.K. records any death that occurs within 28 days of a positive PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 as a COVID-19 death.'' ''Similarly, in the U.S., CDC dataTrusted Source showed that COVID-19 was the sole cause of only about 5% of listed COVID-19 deaths.'' https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/how-are-covid-19-deaths-counted-and-what-does-this-mean#Excess-deaths
  2. I run windows 10 on 4gb ddr3 memory with a i3 6th gen processor. It only panics if I open photoshop. In the past I had problems with Microsoft Office click to run creating the 100% disk, not cpu, but changing from a hdd to ssd solved that. I've never used Edge, but I wonder if it has 'extensions' like Chrome. If so, you should be able to disable them from the browser settings which could help.
  3. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check it out when I head south to Hala Bala.
  4. Can I label these subvariants as common colds yet without receiving a backlash from others about their severity?
  5. I've already had it once so I'm also more proactive in protecting myself from bites. When I think I will be exposed, I wear mosquito proof socks by craghoppers from the UK. I have mosquito proof tops that they cannot bite through the weave, I take my own mosquito racquets with stands to outdoor restaurants, and naturally I use mosquito repellent. I don't really know of much more that I can do.
  6. I make Yorkshire puddings every week. The in laws even love them. Apart from that I usually make my own beefburgers, chorizo and beef penne, along with my sweet tooth needs of bakewell tarts and custard creams. I think after this thread I will give your pie a go. I used to make a lot of mash potato, so that's already half the job done. Rather than boil them in a pan though, I put them in the microwave for about 12mins. If I am having it with fish I will add lime juice to it
  7. Money talks. Hopefully it will be back to normal in a few years. Had some of the best times of my life as a tourist there. I particularly enjoyed the coffee shops, beer and 'tulips'
  8. I expect the calls for blood donations will be coming soon. I think I heard through Richard Barrow that us Brits can now donate blood in Thailand too, so I'll be waiting for the announcements to finally donate my rh A- blood.
  9. I'd normally think this could be a factor, but from the picture in the dark you can easily see through her windscreen. Looking through the windscreen, you can even see through the passenger side windows.
  10. Would you prefer the stalls to no longer be there? I generally avoid the areas in Nakhon Pathom like that because it's difficult to park (between Tesa Road and 25 Makara). Interestingly I saw this comparison yesterday in that area. It looks like the klong itself was thriving with life. Bring back the old way if you ask me which would help clear the pavements.

    Snake ID

Golden tree snake, yes. The shape of the head is rather distinct.
  12. Without seeing the prices of a beer I can't possibly say. No dress code would be better too.
  13. That should just about make a Bangkok-Pattaya round trip in the Ford Raptor. Sorry got here from the newsletter. Didn't realise it was in the motorcycle thread.
  14. Has the ride improved at all? I've used both classes and struggled to sleep due to the constant de-de, de-de, de-de and the shaking. I like the idea of the train but I'll only fly now until they are quieter and smoother.
  15. And? Does that make the inconvenience any better for the people affected by it?
  16. I'm not really that bothered by the man's actions as I'm sure you have to have been there to know what really happened. I believe this could be more a reaction to poor customer service, as being made to wait an hour to see the manager must have definitely exacerbated things. My wife has made a scene a few times in stores where the staff have been rude to her/us for no reason (it's usually the ones who think they are prettier than everyone else). Even when a staff member says sorry, you can see if they are actually sorry or not through their attitude and the manager needs to be called. Sometimes a scene needs to be made to let them understand what can and cannot be said to custimers. The man lost his cool, poured some drink on the floor and that's it. No biggie.
  17. What I see from you guys is that the premiums will continue to go up and up to the point that I won't be able to afford to insure myself. I'm 40 and I'm already accepting the self/non insurance route. I may as well continue saving now rather than lose all the premiums I'd pay for 20+ years to be at the same point.
  18. I can't speak for bar girls, but plenty of the girls at my local university have them. Usually multiple smaller ones.
  19. I'll go get my car washed tomorrow then if that's the case. Guaranteed to have a few days of dry weather.
  20. In that case I'd have done something similar. When I meet people like that I generally respond in one of two ways. I shake my head in disappointment and say in Thai that they are impolite, or I give them the same disgusted look back. The former usually gets them to feel bad about their actions whereas the second one annoys them.
  21. I'd have thought this was her being polite, giving you your own space. Alternatively she may have been worried that others thought you were a couple.
  22. If I had to face that level of noise every time I left the house I would return to the UK or go to another country. Where I find Thais are noisy though is Monk ceremonies, which are basically an event to get drunk and for status: nothing to do with religion, and the win dek or whatever you call the teenagers on their motorbikes. The noise from those bikes forced a friend of mine to leave. He is now a million times happier in Spain without Somchai bursting his eardrums and raising his blood pressure.
  23. Based on the cultural norms of the daughters looking after their parents and of sinsot, I think Thai society is being a bit hypocritical.
  24. Just like my recent trip to Bangkok and I went for a game of pool in the Sportsman. I'm there catching up with some friends I've not seen for 10 years and a group of 4 Americans came in. Loud doesn't even come close to what they where. They weren't even drunk, just inconsiderate a holes.
  25. I think the more attractions that are added would actually hurt the country. In addition to the sex trade, people come here for the culture and history. Building a touristy floating market with no history or a brand new flashy temple only distance Thailand from what many come for.
