  1. Didn't this happen a week or two back? Seems like normal US winter weather to me.
  2. Is it my fault the UK government choose to spent the 20% NI I paid most of my working life for a state pension, rather than invest it? I don't think so. Better you worry about the money the UK wastes on supporting the Ukraine war, foreign aid for India, and the armed forces.
  3. Odd but true. I used to like liver and bacon for breakfast but was never prepared to pay the same price for pork liver as for lean pork steak.
  4. I would suggest the UK hunger problems are the same as before (ww1, ww2, Ukraine/Russia). Only this time it's NATO trying to start a war in Europe.
  5. 60bht for 250gm in Lotus's for chicken breasts. Your UK chicken was way cheaper than Thailand chicken.
  6. My mom told me she was often hungry in the 1950s (rationing).
  7. Does that make a difference to the effects? Do you select wine and beer on the shape and colour of the bottle?
  8. Looking at ALDI UK prices, almost the same for the ingredients in Thailand and the UK. Chicken breasts 2.99gbp for 400gm Vs 60bht for 250gm, potatoes slightly more expensive in Thailand.
  9. Still in contact with my rellies, older couple, live in social housing, live mainly on benefits. Eat a lot of junk food (both huge), drink a lot of alcohol and smoke. I'd say TBL is bang on.
  10. Most of Wat Palaat was built in the past 3-5 years. Although it looks much older.
  11. My lifestyle choice was to move somewhere where I could live on my income. Another lifestyle choice I could have made was to work until I dropped. If I were a woman, I could have chosen to live with (or share living costs) with a man.
  12. I don't know where the 'bitterly' came from. Most of us are entirely happy living here with our younger wives and pensions.
  13. I've met lots of Germans, none of them ever admit any of their family were Nazis. Aldo "the Apache" (Inglourious Bastards) had the answer. At the start 30% of the population voted for Hitler. At the end 90% supported Hitler and 15% were registered Nazis.
  14. More likely the shipping is easier.
  15. Poor people have always been hungry. That's the way the world works.
  16. CDM from England is fine. CDM from Indonesia is not so good. Asian chocolate is made from fat with a higher melting point so it doesn't go soggy on the shelf. I prefer the English made chocolate, even though it is 2x the price of the Indonesian made chocolate.
  17. Liptons tea has always been expensive garbage. Buy Typhoo one cup tea bags on Lazada, 150bht for 100 bags.
  18. You shouldn't be giving your children junk food snacks. The apple is better for them. All these sob stories seem to involve single moms. How many families with 2 working adults are going hungry? The problem is not expensive food. The problem is single moms!
  19. Wear more clothes, sleep in a sleeping bag. As long as you keep the house above freezing, no point in wasting more money. When I was a lad there was always ice on the inside of the windows in winter. People have just got soft and spoiled.
  20. Is it cheaper than a short-time room?
  21. How do we know there weren't bullet holes, a noose around his neck or stab wounds? Someone should design a T-shirt "Believe Thai Police".
  22. I know a few pensioners back in the UK, no income beyond state pension. They're doing OK, so I can't see how 'professionals' aren't coping. Probably poor money management skills. Back to the OP, "Case study: Victoria Breakfasts are a luxury, weekday lunches largely a thing of the past. There are no food treats any more, no desserts or cake. For Victoria, a single mother on a low income, this denial of her own food needs has one purpose: to ensure her two primary school age children never go hungry." Not much sympathy, she chose to be a single mother with 2 kids. The UK is full of desperate single guys that would like some company.
  23. My relatives nearly all died in their early 60s. I've already outlived almost everyone I knew at age 66. Surprised myself, was expecting to be dead by now.
