My MiL lives on our family farm on 3,000bht/month I send her, and claims to be the richest lady in the village. No home appliances, her home is a corrugated iron shack no maintenance, windows and doors just open spaces. No furniture, they sit and sleep on the floor on a mat. She grows and harvests rice by hand, no fertilizer or sprays. She could move in with me (no money) but prefers to live on the farm with 3kbht.

Just not true, food quality is the same (they use more peanuts and coconut milk in Cambodia, less chilli's). I had this nice curry in Siam Reap, with fresh bread rolls, if you have alcohol with your meal, Cambodia will be cheaper (sex on the beach $2). Although mostly I eat Indian food in Cambodia as they are good quality everywhere.

I thought most of us had pensions? I may run out of money, but in another 2-3 weeks I will have money again. I enjoy my life here, my kids here, and the woman I pay to pretend to love me.

I prefer reality to denial. I'm not sure that makes me bitter, as I have no resentment of this reality. It is what it is, and I accept and enjoy my life as it is.

Two menus, two prices is also very common in Chiang Mai, I've always ordered from the Thai menu.
