Whilst I respect your knowledge of the UK visa system I think you are misunderstanding the real question in this case. Whilst she can apply any time she will be limited to the dates she can enter the UK. On a Standard UK visit visa no one will be allowed to stay for more than 180 days (6 months) in a rolling 12 month period. So if the OP's MIL stays 15/3/24to 15/8/24 this is 5 months. This means that she can only stay for 1 more month before 15/3/25. I suggest if she wishes to come for 5 months again, the earliest she should apply is to arrive after this date.

They obviously are not consistent. Last October I returned with a new passport and had the stamps transferred. I was able to do the 90 day report when it was due online as usual.

Medical certificate not an issue if it needs to be valid 3 months and you are away for 2 months. Get one in Thailand, very cheap, this will be accepted for the OA.

A complete non storey. You can't just apply for UK citizenship on a whim, it's a long drawn out 5 year process just to get permanent permission to remain. Getting a UK passport takes longer.

Thanks Richard just for clarification, we normally spend about 6 months in each. This year my wife stayed behind in Thailand until I have a date for my operation. Yes I have a car in the UK and the plan is to add her as a named driver on my policy for a couple of months.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum to ask. My wife comes to the UK every year for a few months. This year I am having a hip replacement so cannot drive. My wife Haa a full Thai driving licence and I know she can drive in the UK for up to a year. What about insurance. Does anyone have experience of adding a Thai to a UK insurance policy. How much it will cost? Any idea of insurance companies who will do this? Thanks

Basically avoid the checkpoints and use the back streets. The checkpoints are always in the same place. Outside Tony's gym. At the junction with the Pratumnak on the Thrapaya road. At the roundabout near Terminal 21. I don't know of any others

8 years ago like an idiot I drove after a few beers towards the checkpoint outside Tony's gym in Pattaya. I was stopped keys to my car taken. I was taken into a small office with my wife at the checkpoint, he took my licence and he left it on top of a cabinet. Whilst he was out my wife took the licence and hid it. On his return we insisted he had my licence already and he said he would find it later. Anyway we got taken to Pattaya police station and sat down in the waiting area. After a while a policeman came out of the negotiating room and asked for 30,000 and no overnight prison or court. My wife negotiated it down to 20k. We did not have the money or ATM card on us so we agreed to meet him in Jomtien the next day. He took my wife's ID card as security. He then took us outside, called the checkpoint to expect us and got us a motorbike taxi. On arrival back at the checkpoint I was given my car keys back and allowed to drive home. Next day we met the policeman and gave him 20,000 and that was the end of it.

Unless you have travelled in Thailand and a TM30 registered in your name in a hotel or something a new TM30 is not required in Jomtien. My TM30 is from 2018 and I leave for 4 months every year and re enter Thailand with a Retirement extension and a reentry permit to the same address. Never had to file a new TM30, yes at Jomtien immigration.

First 90 day report after what. Have you ever used the online system before? If you have ignore those that tell you the first one has to be done in person. I am on a Retirement extension and every year I visit the UK for 4 months and return to Thailand to the same address with a re entry permit. First online 90 day works no problem. This year I entered on a new passport. I had the stamps transferred to my new passport, again my first 90 online worked perfectly.

I agree, coupled with the fact that she has to have lived continuously in the UK for the previous 2.5 years. Now if she has had many 2 month holidays in this period they may consider that she has breached this requirement.

He is saying his car insurance wants photos of his car and bodywork before they will insure it for another year. This has to be carried out by their rep.
