Thailand has a large number of poor people. They need tourists who are prepared to spend money at their small businesses. Tourists with your attitude are not popular anywhere, and never have been.

The current government is failing Thailand on all fronts. It's ethical reputation abroad is poor, to say the least, while it's focus on China for trade is helping only a few Thaksin insiders.

However we are continually being told to increase the birth rate in order to produce enough young people who can be taxed to provide funds for the care of the increasing numbers of elderly people. In other words we are either not willing, or not able, to come up with a solution to this problem other than to encourage world population to be forever increasing even though that will eventually lead to chaos.

A mature 26 year old would tell family and friends he intended to disappear for a while, thereby not causing concerns, and not wasting police/rescuers time. This 26 year old has a lot of growing up to do.

Best you stay in Oz by the sound of. it. For myself, living and working in many countries, and retired in Thailand since 1993, every day has a routine involving chores, exercise, occasional shopping, and, at 83 years of age, periods of relaxation late morning and early evening. Never bored.
