National ombudsman orders road safety improvement over Kata Hill
Srikcir replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Phuket News
National ombudsman association?? Curious as there is a government agency called the Office of the Ombudsman consisting of four ombudsmen. As a result of NCPO's rewrite of the Constitution, the Ombudsmsn has only authority to investigate citizen complaints, gather information and send a report to the government (Office of the PM, etc.). It lost it's power to file a lawsuit on behalf of citizens against the government. The so-called NOA appears to have no authority to order any government agency to perform any action relative to the Constitution. -
Yes, it's a Thai cultural thing for its subjects to be happy, think only about 800 years of tradition and culture - ignore such ideas as personal freedom. Think about a proletariat trapped for generations in a society designed for obedience to its elitists. Endorsed by the coup leader PM whose military tradition began with overthrow of a monarchy for its own absolute power. A very appropriate spokesman for happiness.

"Constitutional protection of sexual minorities - will Thailand join the club?" March 26, 2015 https://www.constitutionnet.org/news/constitutional-protection-sexual-minorities-will-thailand-join-club The new Thai constitution put forward by the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) would ensure the constitutional protection of sexual minorities against discrimination for the first time in Thai constitutional history. The CDC added “sexual orientation” to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination in the equality clause. It would for the NCPO Chief Prayut to approve the addition. Apparently this language might not automatically amend per se the Civil Code which prohibits same sex marriages. This language would reinforce the 2007 Constitution which was accompanied by a statement specifically providing that the anti-discrimination provisions in article 30, which prohibited discrimination on the grounds of gender, specifically included homosexuals, bisexuals, hermaphrodites, transgender people, and post-operative transsexuals. Of course the NCPO abolished the 2007 Constitution with its 2014 coup.

Demands are impossible and will not go below 30bht. But the government will subsidized the price below 30 baht. Now that's telling the truckers, just like it's stand with rice and rubber. We stand firm with our minimum, we make no concessions to these protesters but "gift" you a way around. A "twisty" economic policy that NCPO Leader Prayut prosecuted PM Yingluck for similar schemes and confiscated her assets.

Thai Airways posts earnings after debt restructuring, assets sale
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In debt restructuring, creditors (if you have a refund you're likely a creditor) convert their debt into equity in a tax neutral transaction. No gain, ie.,in the form of taxable income results. Sale of used Thai Airways aircraft, especially if minimally maintained, is also unlikely to result in taxable income except in the case wheren such used aircraft appreciate in value or the sales value exceeds the deducted depreciation for tax purpose (unlikely in this case). Thus, hard to understand that debt restructuring and sale of used aircraft alone resulted in "posted earning." -
SURVEY: Is it time to open schools to in-person learning?
Srikcir replied to Scott's topic in Thailand News
I voted #4 no which has nothing to due about covid 19 but about the ability of students to really learn and think without rote independently, to use imagination without nationalistic boundaries. Ref. Most recently two new education bills passing first reading that could quash young minds further into obedient subjects and not world-class educated citizens. Covid 19 concerns is a Titanic deck chairs shifting while the ship sinks. -
All my information in Mor Prom is correct. In the app you can apply for a Covid 19 International Certificate ( Yellow Pasport?). Going to the IC request all the pre-filled information was correct except nationality that showed me as Thai and corrected it. Filled in everything else as required to get to "Delivery Preferences": Self pickup & Postal. As much too far (have no auto or motor bike) and not near any MRT/BTS stations, I chose Postal. But wasn't allowed. Only Self pickup. Anyone succeed in getting Postal?

Same for me (but private hospital) as I was worried about the flare-up of Variant Delta and couldn't risk waiting until November for 1st jab. I depend completely on public transportation. Asked for refund on the paid for Moderna but no. Allowed to find people to transfer Moderna jabs to but no; many people did what you and I did...not to wait*. Asked that 1st jab be in March 2022 as a booster shot and no answer. * government also began talking about a delay of Moderna into 2022. Much too long to be unvaccinated.

Depending on your travel route, EVA business class plus terminal lounge benefit was good.

So what government agency would be complicit? Just saying "synonymous with government" is meaningless with regard to any specific government accountability. For example, I'd presuppose the Ministry of Health organization at some level might be part of any such conspiracy, even if paid to just "look the other way."

Thailand vows to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2065 at COP26

Will this include getting rid of all the military "dead wood?" As useful as dead dinosaurs. -
China's state-owned HSR system in the last few years has resulted in an overall debt trap, in part due to lack of freight tariffs. Will Prayut pledge he'll be personally responsible for any financial losses for the EEC HSR lines as he created the system by his personal use of Article 44 that overruled economic analysis and anti-corruption laws?
