Peterw42 replied to mohinga's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
TrueMoney Wallet , or Rabbit Line Pay. App on your phone, pay by scanning QR code, can top up at 7/11 Rabbit is an addon to LINE app that all Thais use for messaging. -
A normal SWIFT bank transfer. Nowadays you can do it with your online banking app. (send $AU) Wise and similar can have the dramas of showing money from overseas etc, Wise is better exchange and fees, for smaller amounts but over a certain amount swift ends up better or around the same, due to a fixed fee. Swift is instant when both banks are open (morning through to early afternoon from Oz). Monitor the BKK TT exchange rate on their website and send when its good.

I have always thought this would be a great business idea, long term parking for cars and bikes, rent a shed somewhere, secure parking, regular maintenance/starting etc, transport to/from airport, have it washed and ready for a return date. I have undercover parking at my condo but often return to a flat battery, dirty, etc. And the condo office often has a clean out (starts charging for) cars parked longer than a year

As others have said, Its "asking prices", not what properties sell/have sold for. Thailand suffers from a lack of sales data, its simply not available, properties can change hands and its only the buyer/seller know the amount, and its not published. This leads to people just plucking figures out of thin air, that have never, and will never be achieved. A sellers sees the stupid price, then puts the same stupid price on their property..

90 day online reporting problem
Peterw42 replied to Koratdave's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The new system wont be making a match with old info you entered before, it will be matching the details you entered when you signed up for the new system. -
Depends on usage, for most things probably not much difference. You can run android apps, teams chat, better performance/multitasking. Mostly a different look/feel (closer to the apple world).

A lot of traps in Thailand are bell traps, there is no S/P trap under the floor. Bell traps can dry out, and often people remove the bell when cleaning etc.

Where do you think the HP branded parts come from ?? They come from the same Chinese factory that makes the replacement parts. Your whole laptop is made of parts made in Chinese factories. HP will put one in a HP box and sell it to you for extra, but its basically the same product from the same factory.

OP, I changed from retire OA to marriage a couple of years ago. At the time I had to argue with immigration about no longer requiring the OA insurance. (i had to show them the ruling) If your immi office hasnt processed many change from OA to marriage extensions, they may initially insist you need to have OA insurance. The insurance isn't required , you may need to insist, show the relevant ruling etc.

OP, You mention owning 49% of the house, you cant own 49% of the house. You can set up a Thai company that owns the house and you own 49% of that company etc. That involves seeing a lawyer, company setup, share holders, company bank accounts etc. A whole lot more involved than which bank account does the money go to. If, on the otherhand, you are just buying a house 100% in your partners name etc, it doesn't matter what account the money comes to/from. The only time the bank account would be relevant would be if you are buying a foreign title condominium, 100% in your name, then money needs to go to/from your Thai acct

I was 12 years old and hadn't even started high school yet, When deliverance came out, and I'm 61. Its only a small amount of aseannow readers, (over 70, Vietnam vets etc), that the question has any relevance. "Where were you" etc is an interesting question to pose, maybe without the presumption that we all lived in asia 50 years ago.

OP, a couple of questions. Did you present a valid license from home country, that covers riding a bike. Did they keep your license pending paying the fine ? IDP is not a license, its a translation of your license that accompanies your license, and technically not required in Thailand if your license is in English etc. An IDP can help the police understand you have a valid license etc, but presenting an expired one is not a great idea. If they didnt hang on to your license, ignore it. -
I would respond with my thoughts on the topic, but way to busy reading "a bargirl stole my kidney" threads. Like everything nowadays, there is nobody filtering the media we consume. You can read the puppies adopted a kitten stories, or the Thai people hate us threads. We tend to consume the stories that reenforce our world view.

How are you coping with the rising cost of living?
Peterw42 replied to ASEAN NOW News's topic in Philippines General Chat
Alternatively, I'm noticing some prices going down, the giant all you can eat BBQ buffet round the corner just reopened, before covid it was 300 baht per head and now its 200 baht per head. A local Thai place doing 20 baht Khao Kapow etc. Some fruit and veg are back below pre covid prices. Except for limes, that are getting up near 8-10 baht each -
