  1. Useful thread. We just submitted the application for my GF this afternoon and booked with VFS. We too, have to scan and upload all the supporting documentation in the next 2 weeks before the biometric appointment. If taking the premium gold service, they will also do document scanning and upload for you too. I recall seeing somewhere on the UK.GOV website NOT to book airfares in advance. I would not, unless it was cancellable and refundable.
  2. Sounds like the officer was confusing his retirement extension with a marriage extension. I did my retirement extension here in Bangkok just yesterday, all done in 45 minutes and no new rules and no mention of any home visit (had only one home visit in 2019 when converting from tourist to retirement).
  3. So no more TM30 or 90 Day Reports! Track every move at the same time draining the battery and exposing your phone to hacking/snooping. A big NO THANKS! for sure just as it was with the Covid-19 Mor-Ch-Na and Mor-Prom app.
  4. Yes, in principal, but sometimes the exact location is not correct. Drivers often cannot read those maps either. I've had many Bolt and Grab drivers juggling phones trying to navigate and drive whilst talking to wife, girlfriend or family on a second phone.
  5. Read: more rewarding jobs where the receiving of TIPs is common!
  6. Bring in the army to staff the immigration points just as was done in the UK during recent border force strikes there. In the UK, the army did a much better job and got people through a lot faster. Or, they could develop e-gate for foreigners to use, just as is done in Singapore.
  7. It seems, perhaps, that the "influential" ones are no longer getting the free rides on Thai Airways that they once enjoyed pre-covid (pre-banckruptcy restructuring).
  8. Many corrupt ones, and they don't like having to pay more.
  9. And that, is exactly what Songkran means to millions of Thais. After 4 years, surely Chadchart should know that. TBH Songkran in central Bangkok is pretty <deleted> poor IMO. Better out in the suburbs such as Khlong Luang etc. The most fun Songkrans I experienced were down in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Total chaos!
  10. Can't anyone here see that it was a tenuous link to the location? F.F.S. "Soi Cowboy Area" does not mean it was in Soi Cowboy. In fact, as demonstrated, by other's maps above, it is 1.3 to 1.5 kms walk from Soi <deleted> Cowboy. Get it anyone? The bar (actually named a "cafe") is in a minor sub soi off of Soi 22. Opposite side of Sukhumvit and some distance away. Jeez, either you guys like bickering or are totally challenged. Get over it. The story is about someone waving a gun in a "tourist's face" in front of witnesses. No time or date given and the property was not named. I have spent many late nights at this place. Always a great time and no hint of drama (except when Rory fell off his bar stool, twice one night recently). My opinion, and it is only an opinion, is, that the "tourist" in the story must have been behaving extremely badly to upset the gun owner (who I don't know). I feel bad for the staff at the place because they are now tarnished through no fault of their own - it was never packed but often a decent late night drinking hole. Thinking need to try to find somewhere else now. Not because of fear of said gun owner but likely sanctions from authorities.
  11. Try China. Everthing for a price. Rumour is that forced organ harvesting goes on there. Terminal for the donor though. Think maybe you should try your home country first. Not quite same and successful as a kidney transplant. From your post, it doesn't sound as if you need such a drastic procedure (yet).
  12. Yes, been there. It's got an American name. That's all I'll say. Not difficult to figure out. The map location by @RAZZELL is fairly close.
  13. I was suggest he likely pushed the boundaries a long way. I've spent quite a few hours in that bar in the last 2 years. It's a small bar and very chilled. Mostly expats and visitors who were recommended to go there.
  14. Had some great late nights in that bar. Often until dawn. On a sub soi down Sukhumvit 22. Always friendly and never any drama. Can't say I know the owner, but the staff and fellow drinkers always pleasant and fun. No mention of when this event occured, however we were there at 3am on Saturday just gone. Never a good idea to <deleted> anyone off.
  15. I use a Synology Diskstation located at my UK home as my own personal VPN. To operate, it needs to use DDNS as the ISP may change the IP address from time to time. I don't have dedicated IP address. Therefore to access the VPN I need to access *******.dscloud.biz which forwards to the home server. I was recently in Myanmar and it seemed that they had blocked access and I couldn't even access the server for files let alone use it as a VPN. When I returned to Thailand it was fine. Suspect that China may block anything they know can be used as a VPN too.
  16. Attempted murder (20 counts). Simple as. What will his punishment be? Almost certainly nothing to match the crime.
  17. The thing that taking City Line and BTS offers is certainty of travel times. Arriviing and finding a 30 minute queue for taxi and then encountering gridlocked roads are just unpredictable. Certainly, early morning on a weekend there should not be any traffic but taxi queues are unpredictable. Trains on the orher hand are every 15 mins on city lines and 2-3 minutes on the BTS.
  18. Whilst the Europe, the UK and other nations strangle their economies with bans on internal combustion engines, and by imposing 15 minute cities, other countries will thrive and still won't give a damn about polluting the world's atmosphere.
  19. Renewal can be done 3 months before expiry. At least that's what I typically do at DLT Morchit, Bangkok. My bike and car licences expire in different years, so I have to go to DLT twice each 5 years. Go now and they should renew. Be sure to get all the required paperwork; copies of passport and visa/extension, doctor's note, residency letter from either immigration or your embassy and to have watched the online video and received the required QR code.
  20. I bought same in 2005 and on long trips was able to get 30mpg (Imperial gallons, figure I remember from the time) out of it. Amazing for such a big and powerful vehicle. Was a great truck. Ex Mrs still drives it. Surely a new truck nowadays should be equally as efficient or better than the older models!
  21. Seems a lot of usage for 1 room. With an inverter A/C use should be lower. As others have said 20c is chilly. I keep mine on 26c and use a fan too. Is the room in direct sun for much of the day - that can have a big effect. Also, and this may seem silly, but is the OP wearing long trousers and longsleeve shirts or sweats in order to need that much cooling? First thing I do when returning home is change into T shirt and shorts. Makes a big difference. As for the rate of 8 Baht Kwh, then that's been discussed often here and nothing can be done to lower that. Just use less energy. I would also turn off everthing and check closely to see if meter is still spinning - there is chance of some rogue wiring connected where it shouldn't be ???? Hope your new place finally works out for you.
  22. Unfortunately, justice is something he's unlikely to get in any way, shape or form. Either financially, emotionally or morally. Sad for him and his son.
  23. Until I just looked it up I wasn't aware that liver could give obvious pain. Your naturopath's advice of "fasting for 72 hours a few times a week" could mean not eating at all f.f.s! Maybe @Sheryl has some advice.
  24. Liver pain? Really? I'm overweight. Was 95kgs. Now down to 91.5kgs in last week. No food for 20 hours then light meal. Lots of water. Coffee (no milk or sugar) in the morning at 8am. Work. Swim 1pm. First food of yoghurt and fruit 2:30pm. Dinner (either salad or Som Tam, Gai Yang) at 6:30pm. Feel miserable in mind from 11am until eating but body more healthy and weight going down. Can't imagine no food for 72 hours. Good luck!
  25. I did say it somewhat tongue in cheek but one never knows. When I bought my condo the floorplan was clearly printed and available before deposit paid, along with room sizes (as it is on the chanote too). Can't understand the resistance from builder unless he thinks you want the architect prints. Mine was marketed at 80sqm but actually turned out to be 78.xxsqm. I viewed before buying so was satisfied (and still am).
