  1. That's what I'd expect to pay for that journey by M/C or 50 Baht by shared Baht bus.
  2. Maybe the builder doesn't want you to find out that the floor area is less than what you actually thought you had paid for?
  3. Would not be so sure of that. These days data collection, sharing and matching is a big thing. CRM systems in place have notes and alerts.
  4. Saw on one of the financial YouTube channels recently that the BRICS nations + others, including Thailand and Saudi Arabia I think, are adopting a new payment system as an alternative to SWIFT. That should keep funds flowing.
  5. Do you have any evidence of the amounts please? It is true that most British students fees are typically no more than £9,000 per year (capped) but that's due to the government paying the balance to the university. Do you know whether the total fees (capped amount plus government contribution) for locals are less than those charged to foreign students? I'd be interested to know. Anyone here have experience in the financial side of UK universities?
  6. Without wanting to go off topic, there is relevance to this. This only applies if the council tax discount is being claimed. I keep a flat in London, I'm the sole occupier since 2015 and claim the 25% single occupant discount off my council tax bill. Late last year, I received urgent letters from the council wanting me to refile for the discount, otherwise I would be paying 100%. I went online to complete what they asked. It seems for some reason, there was another name linked (they didn't say how, and it wasn't the landlord's name) to the address. It wasn't the previous tenant either. Ticked the box to say "I'd never heard of them" and that was that. No further action. Be aware, that if using an address for banking at a friend's or relative's house, then the council may well try to remove their sole occupancy discount if it is being claimed - they do check databases somehow, and consider false claims as fraud. There might be a case for saying your name is recorded as a mailing address only without actually being resident.
  7. Best part of this topic. Ring the devil's doorbell. 555
  8. They were able to call the tourist police for "rescue" but seemingly not smart enough to open Google Maps!
  9. Of course not. You can pay in whatever the seller agrees to accept. Remember barter?
  10. And herein lies the problem. They were not Thais.
  11. I bet the participants aren't happy about having to stay in training for another 4 weeks! Or maybe these runners just get off on that stuff. I did the HHH run in Songkhla some years ago and that was quite enjoyable. At least the finish was worth it!
  12. That's always a question that never seems to get answered. How about those on Business Visas, Marriage Visas or Retirement Visas? All considered "tourists" I beleive. If they can't differentiate the different types of visa for clarity, they should just simply post a total number of all traveller arrivals including Thais.
  13. I was in Muang PKK in mid 2020 and walked up to the top of the temple there for sunrise (Wat Khao Chong Krachok). There were lots of long tailed macaques and the locals warned me of them (Rawang Ling). There was a pile of sticks at the base of the steps. Unsurprisingly, none of the macaques were aggresive to me. See this with walkers too. Carry a stick and the animals will respect you. No need to even threaten them.
  14. Bloody hell it's good stuff today!
  15. Never be pressured into anything. Take it as a lesson that you at least got back 80%. No, it's probably not legal but without a written contract, what are you going to do? I'd be much more careful next time. We all learn from lessons like this (and thanks for sharing).
  16. I've often thought how absurd some immigration office requirements for marrital pictures are. If my stay was not absolutely dependant on a marriage extension, then I'd be tempted to include a picture of my partner and I under the bed covers grinning and doing that smiley thing with the thumb and forefinger. Would love to see the I/O's reaction. F.F.S how much more tedious can some offices make the requirements. Anytime I've seen issues and raised voices at my I/O, it has always been those on marriage visas (I'm not thankfully).
  17. Many people living in the UK are living in a rented room in a shared household. They would not have a council tax bill or fixed utility bill in their name. This does not stop them being on the electoral role or having a driving licence at that address. Whether the bank will accept this is unknown. The bank may want to see a rental agreement though. But if living with a relative or friend that would likely not be available. Are banks closing accounts for those circumstances too? Unlikely. Just never give up a UK address or tell the bank you've left the country.
  18. Thanks. But he only posted that after I asked.
  19. Easy. Don't go. They don't want you (just your money). Now going up to enjoy my rooftop pool with views over the city (free of charge too) ????
  20. Where does it show a different price for Thais?
  21. The story is posted/linked here on a English language forum predominantly read by us foreigners. As @MarcelV posted above, and, in my own experience, few people seem to visit there. Maybe the local officials were hoping to attract tourism away from Songkhla. Or maybe it had a good element of incentive to those who commissioned it.
  22. Why not just file a TM30 before each visit to immigration? It's not difficult. Even if you do it day of visit they'll likey be happy as it's just another box to tick. I know the "rules" say it's not needed in your case but good luck in getting anywhere with that - you cannot question their authority or competance. If questioned, simply tell them you've been travelling around the country staying in hotels/guest houses/homestays/hostels or even camping in national parks. So long as it's filed before you go, job done. Worst outcome is 1,600 Baht fine before proceeding with your other I/O business.
  23. That's what I understand too and was told by a Russian I met a few months ago. Middle East US Dollar denominated acounts and before that in Euros in Cyprus but look what happened there in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–2013_Cypriot_financial_crisis
  24. Sad for anyone whose home is threatened on that hillside. Hopefully the authourities will get the fire permanently extinquished. One upside is that there should be some barbecued macaque for certain foreign visitors ????
  25. Unless the building management authorises the supplier to install equipment in the building (I suspect for a fee) then that is likely why the poster @JustThisOnePostOnly at VT7 cannot get what he wants. You are correct in that the management of the building has nothing to do with installation to your condo room. If there isnt the infrastructure in in the condo building then fibre will not be available.
