  1. For this reason and despite any official rules, to avoid any issues with immigration (any office), always do an updated TM30 at your home address before interaction. Quite simple really but so many fail to do this easy step. It is NOT difficult to file a TM30.
  2. Thanks. I'm invested in India and beleive it's on the rise as China is declining. As a Brit, our favourite restaurants are "so called" Indian restaurants. Although a great many these days are actually Bangladeshi. Still good though. Over the last couple of months I've been out to Indian nightclubs in Pattaya. No shortsge of cash being spent there and good fun too. Haven't heard of any visa issues for the Indians. I still beleive they get 2 weeks visa on arrival (correct me if wrong). Maybe TAT will have campaigns there.
  3. Apparently it's Chinese culture. I was waiting in line at Suvarnabhumi for the ever so slow lift a few years ago (pre-pandemic). Me and a few Thais waiting patiently, as the lift arrived a Chinese came and cut right in before all of us. She got the message when pinned to the wall of the lift by my baggage cart. Was she bothered? Hell no. As if completely normally.
  4. No mention of WHY these new requirements are being implemented from what I could see in the OP and linked article. By doing this, it appears that the Thai authorities are doing their very best to limit the once prized Chinese travellers and their money. By making it more difficult to apply for visa, it will be no surprise if the Chinese choose to go elsewhere where their money is welcome. Couldn't make this up. Feel sorry for those Thai owned attractions, restaurants, shops and hoteliers who might lose out (that is if they are truly Thai operated). Or is this new restriction being imposed by the Chinese overlords to limit a Chinese exodus? Seems very strange at a time when we read that Thais are apparently desperate for Chinese toursism to return.
  5. Against all advice, I used Poipet/Aranyaprathet at end of February. We were coming back from Battambang and there really wasn't much better option (flights from Siam Reap were overpriced). Nearly 1 hour getting out of Cambodia and over 1 hour getting into Thailand. The Immigration officers there are very sharp - mine even asked where I went after leaving Thailand 3 weeks earlier as she could see no stamp in the passport between Thailand and Cambodia - had been to Singapore where no stamp is given. They won't miss a trick and border bouncers may get a hard time on re-entry to Thailand. I have a retirement extension so no issue. We got the train to Bangkok at 47 Baht - not a bad journey but very slow and 6hrs long.
  6. Would imagine it would go out of Laem Chabang port (Klong Toey probably too small). The vehicle likely needs to be in a container (20ft). Import into the UK very easy with customs etc. A shipping agent would be able to handle all. I've imported goods from China (2021) and it was easy. UK customs are very heplful - they just want any duty or tax! Try www.daygard.com in the UK who can handle eveything for you or just deal with the import - they were great both times I used them. Their email is: [email protected]
  7. The "free market" read cartel, energy model in the UK has been a disaster. Blatant exploitation of consumers. So much so, that the UK government has had to subsidise (give credit) to all householders' bills for the last 6 months. Businesses also. And still prices are outrageous - 59.73 Pence per KWh (25 Baht/KWH). I would far rather have the national systems of MEA and PEA in Thailand to keep bills down as low as possible, whether subsidised or not. Private entities will always fleece consumers to generate profits for their owners/shareholders.
  8. I've sent enough to buy condos on two occasions 6 Mil+ THB equivalent with no delays or questions. As others said, it could depend on the source of the funds (territory) but if it's from you and to you, then likely no issues on any amount.
  9. Zenophobic headlines are more important and have greater impact and impression on the Thai populace that the authorities are doing a good job!
  10. This is like deep ocean trawling. I'd be right pissed off if they pulled this when I was out enjoying a night out. Venue operators should voice disapproval. Or is there something going on with the choice of venue? Potentailly ruinous to a bona fide establishment.
  11. I've spent a fair amount of time in Hua Hin. It does not compare anything like Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket. It's different. Soi Bintabaht is virtually dead these days. Panama Bar is good fun and possibility of freelancers. The Wonderland on the corner of Soi 94 and train tracks (where Isaan Station restaurant used to be) is nearest you'll get to an "entertainment zone". I quite like Soi 80 as it's pretty chilled, relaxed and fun in some bars. I'm older and don't expect too much. Anywhere in HH the P4P ladies can tend to be older - it's not Soi 6 Pattaya!
  12. Would love to have seen the IO's expression when told that...
  13. OP @MicroB No need for guessing (but suspect you know), just make the application and you will find out. Get her a new passport before application, list travel history as asked, is it really a criminal conviction or just a deportation? When you fill in the visa form you have to answer the questions as best you/she can. Only both of you will know. History is important. Just do it and stop blocking!
  14. Both times I bought Condos in Bangkok (2009 and 2017), I sent the money direct from my UK account to my Thai lawyer's client account being sure to state on the transfer the purpose - such as "buying ABC Condominion, Full street address, Sub-district, District, City and Postcode". Also, be sure to send slightly more, in order to cover costs such as transfer fees and taxes (in full or shared). The lawyer will either keep the extra as part of their fees or reimburse you after title transfer. The last thing you want is the land department rejecting transfer of property on this technicality. I did remote Power of Attorney both times and Fed-Ex/DHL the signed document to the law firm. No issues at all. They were better than any solicitor/conveyancer I ever used in the UK! The law firm would do the necessary payment to the mortgage bank etc. at title transfer stage, leaving you with nothing to worry about.
  15. I have a pair of Daikin FTKMs - 12,000BTU (25,000THB) and 24,000BTU (40,000THB). Installed in 2019 and 2020. Super quiet and efficient. The savings in energy use (halved) have already paid for them. I think that resorts are short sighted when it comes to equipment - they seem to want to save on capital expenditure at the expense of long term efficiency and reduced energy use. Same in rented apartment/rooms. Some of the units I've seen must be 20 years old and don't cool very well.
  16. You won't be charged and can only withdraw online or in branch with passbook. I never renewed my Kbank card on the account with the 800k used for visa extension. No charges for new card. No monthly fees. No chance of ATM or Debit Card fraud.
  17. I think @spidermike007 means remote from rest of the world. In SE Asia there are about a dozen countries to visit within 4 hours flying time of Bangkok. How many countries are within 4 hours of main cities in Australia?
  18. It would appear a lot of concern. 1) She travelled to another country to work illegally 2) She received a conviction in a foreign country. The UK entry clearance officer (Visa processor) will look at that as past form and is unlikely to issue a visa. Unless, she has been to a western country such as USA, Canada, anywhere in the EU, Australia or New Zealand since and has returned home to Thailand. Then there might be a chance.
  19. Spoke to my GF in Chonburi today and she was quoting figures of 54c. It seems that the climate brigade have jumped on the "real feel" or "feels like" figure rather than the actual figure. Last week I was in Bangkok when they said it was over 50c but the actual temperature was 38c. Sure it was scorching, but why are they now seizing on the higher figures? What's their agenda on this?
  20. You'll get stamped to the expiry date of whatever visa or extension of stay you have.
  21. Just show both passports. No problem at all. Then go to immigration to have the extension (and multiple reentry permit if you have one) into the new passport. That's what I did. No charge at CW in 2019.
  22. Kudos to you and your considerations. But what a <deleted> boring life you must lead. All for something, symptoms same as a mild flu or cold now. My 85 year old mother had it, my 81yr old stepfather had it (twice), my 78 yr old uncle had it, my sister had it, many friends have had it (multiple times). I've had it at least twice, maybe more. We've all been jabbed numerous times (some 5 times). Still caught it. Maybe less severe, who knows. None of us worry about it. A 49 year old lady friend was laid to rest last week, not of Covid but of cancer. Time to move on with life and stop worrying about Covid!
  23. Not mandatory. Polite or conforming to being one of the sheeple is up to you. I, like many others, stopped mask wearing on the BTS a few months ago. Do expect to see about 90% wearing though. You won't get harrased or stared at for not wearing a mask.
  24. You have a very good point about the "moral authority" being gone. People just would not accept future coups as they did in the past.
