  1. Thanks. Quite a change, however not easy and not always possible. Yet another hurdle to gain a British passport. Good luck to the OP! From the updated guidance in 2019: Foreign nationals who apply to become British citizens may be registered or naturalised in their married name. However, if a new citizen wants a British passport in their married name they must change the name on their other passport(s), travel documents and national identity card(s) to reflect their married name before submitting their application. Exceptions to this approach are set out in Exceptions to guidance.
  2. Assuming, by "they" you mean British authorities. That seems crazy. Your partner comes to the UK in maiden name, you get married and she assumes your last name in marriage (from marriage certificate). After the required period, she applies for British citizenship but they won't allow that unless her Thai passport has been changed to her married name? I'm sure you must be correct. Do you have a link to this as I know someone in the UK whose Thai wife is just about to apply for UK citizenship?
  3. That, unfortunately, appears correct from the .GOV.UK website. I got my affirmation of address in November 2022 for renewal of car driving licence. I own my own condo, have a yellow book/Pink ID card and a non-o retirement extension for last 4 years. My M/C licence needs renewal next year. As I never spend 90 consecutive days in Thailand, and don't do 90 day reports, is it possible to get residence certificate from immigration?
  4. I've done applications/renewals 3 times at Nakhon Si Thamarrat and 5 times at Morchit. Even with my basic Thai, their English was better and no problem at all on every occasion. IMO, NO NEED to pay an agent (unless you are lazy, incompetent or don't meet the requirements).
  5. Heaven forbid, that citizens from a "neighbouring country" might display a willingness and ability to serve and speak English better than a native Thai. Tut Tut!
  6. Wasn't Non-O ME (multiple entry) discontinued by RTE London some years ago?
  7. An interesting choice to post that here. I learned of the Edmund Fitzgerald on a trip to Whitefish Point in October 1999 when dating a girl from Detroit. Hard to imagine that such bad weather could affect an inland lake such as Lake Superior. Tragic loss and sad song to go with it. https://goo.gl/maps/SyEXqbehBFcE59kG8
  8. @rasg Why change the Thai name? My wife (since ex), never changed any of her Thai documents into her married name. Always kept her Thai name in her Thai passport, Thai ID card, Thai Tabien Baan and Social security in Thailand. Can see of no reason to change unless, perhaps, any joint children of yours are born in Thailand, but then may still not be necessary. Keeping my wife's Thai maiden name and documents was never any problem or issue during our 14 years of marriage in the UK. She obtained a British passport (after 3 years), NI/Tax status, UK driving licence, Company registration and all UK documents in our married name (my last name) and still retains to this day. Our son has UK and Thai passports in our married name and was able to register on Thai Thabien Baan and get Thai ID card in his (and my last name). When booking flight tickets, we always used her married last name (not maiden name) and it was never an issue - just need to use Thai pasport on entry and show both passports on exit from Thailand. If there is some other compelling reason for you to effect change then please post.
  9. No mention of this from Kbank (2 accounts) either online, by app, by SMS or by email. Did an 80k transfer to GF's Bangkok bank acc a few days ago with no issue or delay (no, she doesn't get that each week/month ????). This is the first I heard of this facial recognition.
  10. Wait, what about Montenegro? Having a Montenegrin Grandfather surely conveys claim to another citizenship?
  11. If you are sitting outside on the balcony then why would you leave the air conditioning turned on in the apartment? Not much you can do about it unless moving the units, or turning off when sitting on the balcony.
  12. In the UK the report from the hospital is not the birth certificate. I took my son's hospital record to the local borough registrar who registered the birth and provided the "UK birth certificate". This, in English, was taken to the Thai Embassy, London who provided the "Thai birth certificate" (used to add to Blue Tabian Baan and to get Thai ID card). Thai Passport was issued by Thai Embassy in London before ever being added to Tabien Baan or travelling to Thailand on Thai passport at age 3 months.
  13. At jeapordy of doxxing myself. My son was born in the UK in 2003. He got a UK birth certificate. We took that to the Thai Embassy in Queensgate in London and they got him a Thai birth certificate. He was then issued with a Thai passport in the UK after already having been issued a British passport. Once in Thailand, he was added to the Blue Tabien Baan for the family home on a visit there a few months later. Since, and now at age of 19yrs, he has been issued a Thai ID card within Thailand. IMO the Thai Embassy should arrange Thai birth certificate for your child as he has a Thai mother.
  14. What were the lifeguards not doing so that "Mr Martin" had to intervene and save a life? He should be offered a permanent residency or citizenship for his efforts. Drowning is such a problem for Thais. Swimming (or awareness of water dangers), should be taught to Thais universally. Too many tragedies - young and old, whether homeless or not.
  15. The continued easy persecution of users vs traffickers shows a weakness in the law enforcement in Thailand. Users should be offered immunity from prosecution for identifying the source. Would be a far more effective deterrent for traffickers. I heard that a tab of YaBaa or YaIce is now as low as 10 Baht. Hooks in so many potential users. Destroys lives. Go after the peddlers, not the easily impressioned young users.
  16. Always amazes me how Thai drivers ignore emergency vehicles that always have lights flashing and sirens blaring. Never give way. Dimwits. Loss of taxi licence and prosecution should be immediate. <deleted>!
  17. Such a sad and tragic report. Feel very sorry for all those who knew and loved the deceased. For now, the focus should be on the 9yr old daughter who needs all the support she can get. As for the perpetrator, then only one thing is appropriate - death sentence (especially as a repeat offender). #lowlifescum
  18. Op @notrub Sorry to hear your situation at your respectable age of 75. Happy Birthday! You know it's over and time to move out, and move on. Despite the usufruct, being in a village with potentially hostile family and neighbours is not a good idea. Take what you can, and all documentrary evidence, lawyer up (or at least take good legal advice). There is no knowing what might happen to you if you stay in that house - will you sleep again or sleep forever? Whatever you choose to do, I wish you happiness. I had a toxic Thai ex-wife. Took ages to get through it but happy now. Chok dee!
  19. Left TM6 field blank when I did mine online last month. No problem at all. Printed out the TM30 record once filed and used that at immigration when applying for extension of stay. All good.
  20. Looks lovely. The Thai HiSo's will be flocking there for Instagram and Facebook pictures. Why no mention of prices on the OP? Seriously expensive or what?
  21. Nice promotional for Central but no important detail such as start date and operational hours and schedules. 190 Baht is fine, but when?
  22. @Stevey I like your post and admire your determination. As a father of a 19 year old half English/Thai son, I can see your input to the development of the child. In the absence of another father figure he will prosper with your attitude. Ignore the trolls here and don't be tempted to bait them. Don't worry about the grammar police either. If they are not clever enough to understand, without punctuation, then that's their problem. @NORDO Is on the right track, us as farangs in Thailand, will find it hard to be accepted. We can try to make a difference. Even in Cambodia and Myanmar, their English language is better than Thailand. @Stevey, You can make a difference to that boy's future. Do take note of @BritManToo's comments. Be carefull not to piss off anyone in the local community. I have seen the penis pinching thing and beleive it to be a way of scolding a child or getting their attention. I would never do same with anyone else in the community if I was you. You do seem to have a good grasp of local family life that many here have not experienced. Immersion in the culture is not something all have endured, hence comments on this forum. Good luck to you and please keep posting your experiences thus others will learn.
