Thai land bridge project faces concerns over land disputes
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This land-bridge "scheme" is fairly recent, maybe first proposed in 2005? The Kra Isthmus Canal was first proposed in 1677. I think you can stick a fork in the "land bridge". Such a project would require significant focus from successive governments. Not exactly a strong suit for Thailand. -
Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
https://thailand.prd.go.th/en/content/category/detail/id/2078/iid/277841 I think the 730 baht (or equivalent currency where the ticket is issued) is denoted as "TS" on the ticket break-out. Domestic PSC is 130 baht. -
I was able to sign up (email+pw, OTP), add my mailing address (the address where my new+old passports will be mailed to me), and then get through to the payment screen. Quite simple and straightforward. Personally, I would use the QR Promptpay option. Everything is set up and my shopping bag is ready for my renewal towards the end of this year.

Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The current Passenger Service Charge for International arrivals is 730 baht. An extra 300 baht would total 1,030 baht. The "730" goes to AoT. The biggest hurdle is "collection" of this 300 baht fee. Thailand wants airlines to create a new line item, airlines, to date, have refused to do this. They could raise the PSC to 1,030 and AoT could remit 300 baht to the Tourism/Sport Ministry but that may be illegal? There is also no way to avoid charging Thais unless the government rebates it. Every Tourism/Sport Minster salivates at the thought of "managing" a NINE BILLION Baht Slush Fund. -

British Expat Arrested For Punching and Killing Russian Man
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
The Khasosod English article mentions a daughter, presumably Mr. Ricki and Ms. Mod are the parents. Very confusing... Ms. Mod revealed details of her husband’s statement to the police, saying that while people at the party were drinking until they were drunk, Mr. Igor began to make flirtatious comments toward their daughter, even though Mr. Igor’s wife was also at the party. The Russian man then began to sexually harass their daughter, walking up to her and whispering in her ear that he wanted to have sex with her. This angered Mr. Ricki, who punched Mr. Igor in the face once, causing him to fall to the ground.... อ่านข่าวต้นฉบับได้ที่ : https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2024/05/27/british-man-punches-russian-at-pattaya-party-killing-him-with-a-single-blow/ -
Where did you read this? It "works" in Thailand. https://www.pay.gov/public/form/entry/101/1156527186/ https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/photos.html Most seem able to follow these simple directions: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/instructions-for-ds-82-processing-by-mail-and-online-fee-payment-for-u-s-citizens-residing-in-thailand/ You can buy the Courier Pass back at a Thai Post Office, but again, most seem able to purchase this online.

In one article he was quoted as saying that he had "personal" problems, and was taking tranquilizers. And said he had consumed alcohol while operating a motor vehicle. "Strong warning." He seems to have quite a few excuses. Mr. Davis explained that he was a former mercenary from the United Kingdom and had moved to Thailand 22 years ago to start a family and had an 18-year-old daughter with his Thai wife. He admitted to acting irrationally due to personal and family problems and regularly taking sleeping pills or tranquilizers. Before the incident, he had run errands with his daughter in Udon Thani city and drank 40-degree white wine at a Bun Bang Fai festival in Phen district.... อ่านข่าวต้นฉบับได้ที่ : https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2024/05/24/british-man-apologizes-for-punching-udon-thani-gas-station-attendant/

Thailand Set to Recriminalise Cannabis Amid Expert Outcry
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Would love to see some numbers defining "an alarming rise" in psychiatric cases". And if cannabis is so dangerous why is the government taking ~ twelve months to reclassify Cannabis (several officials have quoted the date of April 2025 for implementation)? It can be reclassified immediately - as Anutin did in February 2022 - with the stroke of a pen, maybe with a 90 - 120 gazetting option. Close all the shops tomorrow. Sieze all the cannabis and destroy it. Arrest anyone using it. Letting the children suffer continuing psychiatric distress for a full year seems like medical malfeasance.- 170 replies

Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
bamnutsak replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Can you share any details on how you buy SOTI? In which country do you purchase "most of your tickets"? Maybe a sample itinerary, airline and pricing. How do you choose the currency? AFAIK, International Sales Indicators (ISI) were modified 15 January 2005. -

They are already successful, without government interference. Which laws? Isn't there already a boatload of computer crime laws? Thai "officials" just love censorship. -

Yes, this would work if on separate tickets. Adds an extra stop/time, may not be able to check bags through, extra cost, no protection for missed connection. BKK-SIN/KUL/HKG would of course be assessable income. You could have a relative in your home country purchase the ticket with their credit card issued in your name, then reimburse them. But not 100% sure that this would pass muster with Thai Revenue Officials. -

Tickets are issued (SITI, Sold Inside, Ticketed Inside) in the country where travel begins. If you are flying THL-XXX-THL, then the ticket will be issued in Thailand in THB. And that cost/price would be assessable income. Years ago you could utilize SOTI, Sold Outside, Ticketed Inside, but no longer possible. Sucks when you drop 120,000 on a business-class ticket. -

Trump Demands Drug Test for Biden Ahead of First Debate
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
More projection from the former president. trump's team should have negotiated ALL of the terms of the debates, including drug testing. To make such a demand now seems lame. I'd demand a diaper check on trump. No diaper for Diaper Don. trump's Whitehouse sounds like it was a pill mill, overseen by Dr. Rony. This was MFP MP Chaithawat Tulathon saying that this is a priority. Amnesty for 112 will NEVER, EVER be a thing. For a brief period in 2020... HM KING PUTS STOP ON USES OF ROYAL INSULT LAW: PM BANGKOK — PM Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday said His Majesty the King has instructed the authorities to refrain from pressing royal defamation charges against members of the public. Gen. Prayut said King Vajiralongkorn has expressed his clemency and called for no further use of Article 112 of the Penal Codes, known as the lese majeste law, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail. However, the Prime Minister said Thais shouldn’t take the opportunity to insult the monarchy. “His Majesty the King has … instructed me personally over the past two to three years to refrain from the use of the Law,” Prayut said. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2020/06/15/hm-king-puts-stop-on-uses-of-royal-insult-law-pm/
