Cannabis Supporters to March Against Government's U-Turn
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
With all the problems facing Thailand it is disconcerting that they are spending so much time on this. If cannabis is a danger/threat to society just reclassify it NOW, with the stroke of a pen (by the Minister of Public Health), as a class 5 narcotic. Shut down all production, distribution and use. Start arresting and charging people. If cannabis is not a threat/danger to society, codify legalization in Parliament. -

Yes, and they may only take Thai credit cards. Or they may add on a 3% uplift on the bill for domestic or foreign credit card use.. I was surprised JIB (new PC build, Advice will only take Thai credit cards) took a foreign credit card. Most of my medical and dental is paid with a foreign credit card. All three of my Visa cards do not charge any foreign transaction fees. BTW, are out-of-pocket medical expenses deductible on the Thai tax return, all or in part?

BBL bank photo copies of Visa page.
bamnutsak replied to arick's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I've had extensive contact, two visits, with my BBL branch over the past three weeks, updating passport information, new phone, new phone number, re-enabling mobile banking, photograph, and facial recording (center, left, right, blink a few times). They took my passport to a copier so I am unsure what they copied. But of the twelve signatures I had to provide, there was just the main/photo page of my passport which I was asked to sign. -
Criticism Grows Over Alcohol Sales on Religious Holidays at Airports
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, you are correct. No clue why I forgot this as I but a liter every time in the baggage claim area. I assume that is NOT possible on one of the five holy days NOW? But might be with this repeal. There was some talk about closing all King Power Duty Free shops. https://www.nationthailand.com/news/policy/40039344 For single malts in the 2,500 baht segment and up, the savings are pretty good. On average you pay the same or slightly less for 1 liter, as you do in town for 700/750. That is a decent savings. -
I think you, as an individual, have to decide what assessable income to declare when/if you file a tax return. Such remittances may represent non-assessable/exempt income. But I'm not sure there is a method to exempt them. I might direct my U.S. SocSec to a U.S. bank, then wire-transfer some/all of that to my Thai bank account. For me, ATM withdrawals come at the daily VISA rate, no home bank fees, and the local ATM fee (220 THB is refunded). For me, SWIFT transfers are free (but come to Bangkok Bank at their TT rate, and their 200 ~ 500 baht fee). Another challenge is foreign credit card usage. For which I might use Social Security "income" to pay off.

Trump's Vision for 2025: A Sweeping Crackdown on Immigration
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I think Stephen Miller is underestimating the logistics necessary for mass deportations. Building internment camps, capturing undocumented people, transporting them (domestically), housing them, feeding them, finding countries to take them, and organizing charter flights, will be an expensive and arduous effort. While the target may be 15 ~ 20 million, he might be lucky to get to 1 million. -

Election Commission Urged to Nullify Senate Race Over Alleged Rigging
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As far as I can tell, the Senate "selection" process functioned as designed. Opaque, easily manipulated with the public not allowed any voice in candidate selection. Just another demonstration that the powers that be do not want the public involved in Thai-style democracy. BJT was much more "adept" than PTP. I'm sure we'll be hearing about the money that changed hands in return for a Senate seat, and the disputes over returning the cash. -
Criticism Grows Over Alcohol Sales on Religious Holidays at Airports
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Is this proposed repeal meant to apply to King Power Duty-Free? Or just the 7/11 (and restaurants/airline lounges) at airports? For Duty-Free, that's only available to departing international passengers, so they won't be consuming alcohol in Thailand on a holy day. Now do "election-days". -

Recommend a computer I can order from Lazada.
bamnutsak replied to giddyup's topic in IT and Computers
You are correct. I missed that in the OP even after several readings. Thanks, I honestly didn't know there was such a thing anymore, other than from Apple. Every major supplier seems to have quite a large selection of these things. https://www.advice.co.th/product/all-in-one-pc https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/2/28 The OP can order direct, and most of these suppliers have same day delivery in as little as two hours. -
This is for a Thai TIN? (And not a U.S. TIN.) What was this paperwork? Does Bangkok Bank obtain a TIN for customers with the Thai Revenue Department? You mean an SSN? If so, why haven't they asked for it for existing accounts? I infer from the OP that this was a requirement to open a second/new account. I have no issue providing my SSN, but I do not have a Thai TIN so I'd have to get one of those.

I must have missed that in the original post... I'm a complete Luddite when it comes to computers, I bought my present Lenovo All-in-one about 6 or 7 years ago and it's starting to give problems. It's started to get slow, also problems with the on-off switch, so time to upgrade. I mostly use it for downloading movies, Google searches and emails, no gaming, so doesn't have to be top of the line. It's more convenient for me to order direct from Lazada than trawling around computer shops, so any recommendation appreciated. Happy to spend a max of 25,000 baht. The options I suggested are "all in one"; no clue what a 24" PC is though. -

Most of the retail brands offer pre-built kits which save the hassle of availability/compatibility. JIB https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/1/1400 Advice https://www.advice.co.th/product/comset IHAVECPU https://ihavecpu.com/promotion I didn't read the OP's additional posts so unsure about the application requirements (gaming for example), but there are integrated graphics options from both Intel and AMD, which help keep costs down, if not needed. https://ihavecpu.com/product/19387/jund5-03-amd-ryzen-7-8700g-4.2ghz-8c-16t-b650m-onboard-16gb-ddr5-5200mhz-m.2-500gb-650w-(80bronze)-hs https://www.advice.co.th/product/computer-set-intel/set-intel/คอมประกอบ-advice-computer-set-intel-i295-i5-14500-no-vga https://www.advice.co.th/product/computer-set-intel/set-intel/คอมประกอบ-advice-computer-set-intel-i285-i5-13500-no-vga Some of these sell out quickly (7 - 14 days) - I've been shopping for one for a friend - and have missed out on a few. -

Thailand’s Cannabis Debate Ignites After Doctor’s Insightful Article
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Currently legal medical use is very, very limited. Just a few conditions qualify: 1. Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy (chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting)(5, 6) 2. Epilepsy that is difficult to treat and intractable epilepsy(10,11). 3. Spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis(12). 4. Neuropathic pain(8, 13) 5. Anorexia in underweight patients with AIDS(14,15) 6. Improving quality of life in patients receiving palliative care or end-of-life patients I think there is some interest in expanding legal medical use (high THC), but the extent of that expansion is open for debate, which further complicates the current situation. Could anyone get a medical card? Then buy flower? Then use it even in public? After all I can take medicine in public. Who produces medical flower? How is it tested? Dispensed? Controlled? Taxed? Who produces medical extracts (with greater than 0.2 % THC)? How are those tested, dispensed, controlled and taxed?
