  1. Living as I do in the countryside full of poor people, my question was intended to point out the practicalities of life amongst the poor rather than the theory of superior people who wouldn't dream of doing anything so silly.
  2. I've never had this experience, but wouldn't that be one of the FIRST things you would find out when the 2 of you were 'being intimate'?
  3. Mostly on back-country roads. Rare on main roads. Obvious question: When a motorcycle is the best anyone (but not everyone) can afford, how are you supposed to get around?
  4. So how do 'foreigners' - as opposed to former criminals - get on the voter rolls in the first place? Don't you have to have some ID (ID card, p/p, d/l ... )?
  5. Or in Finland. Either way, talking to the Finnish authorities would likely be more useful than posting on AN ...
  6. Calm down, Everyone. Not going to happen, at least in our lifetime.
  7. No. It was a pun on the common expression: So which is which?
  8. A ridiculous couple. One of them weak & stupid, the other strong & nasty. Guess which is witch.
  9. No longer, if the reported buildup of thousands upon thousands of EVs (Chinese) piling up in European ports is anything to go by ...
  10. Found Thailand too hot for his English complexion so decided on a cooler climate to visit.
  11. Ancient grudges still pursued thru the courts. Necessary so that current grudges can be pursued too ...
  12. A rightwing Black person? Oh no, how will we cope? (Well, I think Maggie Thatcher would have been cheering her on.)
  13. In a rational world there would be 2 debates: One at a time and place proposed by Trump, and one at a time and place proposed by Harris. But I was often accused of being too rational during my career as a Federal public servant in Oz.
  14. I've had a b/f since 2012 and we've been trying to have a baby but somehow we don't seem to have managed.
  15. We've had full house insurance since we built in 2016/17. Arranged thru BKK Bank. Never a problem for the 2 or 3 small claims we've made. No suggestion of scepticism or being difficult on their part. Helped no doubt by being good bank customers known to be 'rich'. Much the same as the car insurance where we've made 2 or 3 rather larger claims. Having said that, Thais clearly have a problem with the concept of risk. You see that every day of the year on the roads, including eg crossroads or intersections with blind spots. Only AFTER a death do they rush to fix the problem (See! No ploblem. Noone die). Every year when it comes time to pay the house insurance premium I have the same argument with b/f: "House not burn down".
  16. Just like the politicians that WE elect to run the country, so in Western democracies we employ the police to do the jobs that need doing but that we don't want to do and are incapable of doing. In both cases - politicians & police - we then spend a great deal of time whining and grizzling about them, accusing them of being corrupt and incompetent. In which case why did we elect THOSE particular people? and why don't WE try doing the cops' jobs instead?
  17. In sum, with Trump anything is possible.
  18. Just to keep everyone happy, Baht is FALLING STRONGLY today - against USD and thus also AUD & £.
  19. Everyone knew. Not a secret. These are Thai peasant boys. Half of them were gay-for-pay. That's how they made ends meet (so to speak).
  20. My mumbled one- and two-word attempts are greeted by my family with cheerful understanding (giggle giggle). Anything beyond that would be beyond either them or me. But I am resolved - once I've finished improving my Cherman and teaching myself to read Spanish literature fluently - to take up Thai seriously before I reach 80. 5 years to go.
  21. Things must be bad if people think that Prayut & Fatty were better!
  22. Thais need to learn that, if you want smoother entries, you have to make smoother exits.
  23. Yes, my b/f served finger food to the highest in the land (well, actually the second highest). And minded the colonel's dog and cut the hair of his platoon. He also tells me the conscripts have to pay for their own uniforms. All of which is somewhere between amusing and appalling but I must say - for an uneducated illiterate peasant boy who spoke Khmer as his first language, peasant Thai as his second - this was all for him a great eye-opener & an education in itself. He still knows all the shortcuts thru hotel lobbies and other people's backyards whenever we're in Bangers. And he met the love of his life and now speaks OK English ...
