  1. Well, IMO, it's the reasons that I laid out above. And I didn't say that anyone thinks that Western culture is superior. I haven't been, but I assume that it's similar to what I have described in Vietnam. Money, class, treatment, etc.. I actually think that Thailand could be fairly unique amongst developing countries with their view of Western people.
  2. No, it's used do describe a noticeable pattern of behaviour. It's clearly an idea. It has nothing to do with Nazis. ????
  3. No. In terms of attitude, it's the opposite. Well, it is and it isn't. They like Western material things, technology, etc., but not necessarily Western ideas or people. I can't speak for how commonplace it is, in terms of numbers. But the women are more interested in Western men than Thai women are.
  4. I assume handouts from the government and payments from daughters in the cities.
  5. Like many insane left-wing activists (fascists), they've got it into their heads that their crusade is about saving lives, therefore any tactic is justified and nothing is more important.
  6. It's quite simple. Old definition (positive): Being aware of certain social/political/economic issues affecting certain marginalised and disadvantaged groups. (E.g. "He's cool, he's woke to the things that affect us.") New definition (negative): Trying to pander and virtue signal, making it appear that someone is trying to help the groups from the old definition but are actually doing so purely for personal gain. (E.g. "Go woke, go broke.") I think the negative has really replaced the positive version, which is pretty old-fashioned anyway. People will try to pretend they don't know the meaning, or that "only Nazi White Supremacists use the new meaning", because they know that words represent ideas and ideas have power.
  7. Most people know exactly what it means, but some don't like it so they try to obfuscate.
  8. @JoseThailand I forgot to add. Some Vietnames women appear to have the attitude that a foreigner will treat them better than a Vietnamese man, who can be prone to drinking, cheating an hitting (some not all). Whereas I think Thai women who are in the same situation believe they should accept it, or possibly that they deserve or like it, and that opting for a foreign man instead would be betraying their nation. Again, some not all. Just trying to explain the phenomenon.
  9. Good question. A fundamental factor is that Western people are viewed completely differently in Vietnam than they are in Thailand. Whilst in Thailand foreigners are viewed as occupying probably the lowest position on the social hierarchy, in Vietnam they are placed towards the top. In Thailand, if a woman is with a foreigner, she can expect to be stigmatised and treated with hostility (unless he is very wealthy), presumed to be a prostitute, etc., while in Vietnam a woman being with a foreigner has her social status elevated. (I'm sure you know how important social status is when a woman is selecting a man.) Also, in terms of culture, Thai people might think something like "Our culture is superior to that of the West and there is nothing they can teach us", whereas a Vietnamese person might think "While we understand the value in our own culture, there is much we can learn from foreigners as they come from somewhere more wealthy and with a better education system". This is probably down to a number of factors. Vietnam is obviously poorer than Thailand, so this possibly affects how eligible a foreign man might be. Vietnam was colonised for a long time, so they could have a lot more awareness of how foreign people can bring benefits to them and be more comfortable around them (even though it sounds like the opposite should be true). Due to not much of a sex trade in Vietnam, it's possible that Vietnamese people have a very different impression of foreign men, as they are more likely to encounter business people or teachers. Also foreign teachers are respected and valued in Vietnam and paid a relatively high salary, unlike Thailand. And the level of English and desire to learn it is a lot higher in Vietnam, which has obvious benefits when considering dating an English speaking foreigner. Essentially, in Thailand the response upon encountering a foreigner might be "Ew! A foreigner! I don't want anything to do with them", but in Vietnam it is more likely to be "Wow! A foreigner! Interacting with them will probably be beneficial to me in some way". (I realise not everyone is like this, but I'm generalising to offer an explanation.)
  10. All of these can be influenced. No transing under 18s is logical, for their own protection.
  11. If half of the stuff that happens in Thailand happened in the US, most people would be sacked, locked up or have no driving licence within a day.
  12. You have to remember, in Thailand, the customer is always wrong!
  13. Well, it wasn't a compliment. Perhaps just think about it next time. Especially when you're on the topic of supporting one identity group, being unpleasant to another could be seen as being a tad hypocritical. "Beware that, when fighting monsters...", etc..
  14. ???? Since the OP has "been using it for almost 15 years", I think it's fairly unlikely that he hasn't used it since he signed up for it.
  15. A central kitchen in Bangkok will supply every sshool in Thailand.........? Central kitchen system.
  16. More than likely a scam. You should be able to click something in the address lines to see the actual email address it was sent from and it will probably look off. It might be just some random numbers. I think it's true for most companies that they will never send you a link to access your account, but tell you instead to login as you would normally. You should get in a habit of trying to never follow links in an email where they ask you to log in, but instead access the website through your normal method and see if there are any reports or messages there.
  17. Very interesting, but even if you think special treatment is deserved, it is still special treatment. ????‍♂️
  18. What's wrong with the "Pride Month" example? If you don't accept a literal month long period dedicated to LGBT as being an example of special treatment, why would you accept anything else?
  19. I've often had the same thought. The thing is, super rich people aren't rich because they're such good people and want to help others. They're rich because they want to be rich, to have business empires, to have huge amounts of wealth. They reach the point where they could provide a good life for them and their families, but they keep going because they want more money, more than they could possibly spend. The chances are he simply wouldn't get the same feeling some people would from helping others. ????‍♂️
