I'm guessing that many of the replies that say "don't drink and drive" are from poor expats who don't own even a motorcycle, let alone a car. I explicitly said "never intoxicated" I just wanted to know, if I had a beer, and the cop smelt beer on my breath, how to avoid the obvious lengthy inconvenience after. I appreciate the 2 helpful replies thus far, alien & quake, and find those answers helpful. To those of you who wrongly accuse me of driving while drunk, I hope you manage to get a vehicle in the near future.

I occasionally use my own car to return from a club/bar after a couple beers, never really intoxicated. But I have noticed lately an increase in "road blocks" at night in Pattaya/Jomtien. In the event that a cop smells beer on my breath, I know I am in for a world of hurt. Not really comfortable with the paying procedure, wouldn't even know what to offer! Does anybody know of a reasonably priced lawyer who takes these cases (at night preferably). Alternatively, some lessons on how and where to offer , and the expected amount would be insightful. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, it is only Pattaya where I see this nonsense year in year out, useless construction, gaping holes, uneven sidewalks, untraversable roads, I don't think there is a more corrupt local government than in this "family resort" area with more hookers per square km than in all of Thailand. Frustrated and fed up!!!

I don't understand why parents kill innocent children! Surely there was somebody who would look after her, or even an orphanage where she would have a chance of enjoying a life, which the murderer enjoyed for too long? Sure the driver was driving like he was high on yaba, but the root cause was the moron lorry driving in the fast lane, slowly. Personal experience in Sri Lanka before they opened a "super-highway" from airport to Colombo was that the Government put out TV and Radio ads simply telling people to drive on the left, if they are driving slowly or even at the speed limit. It worked! Now, you have a super-fast lane from airport to city, with nobody on the right (fast) lane! If the Gov't here cared, they would do such a simple ad campaign, and it may work, because IMHO the intelligence level of Sri Lankans is comparable to those of Thai....

Surprised you are not asking the people who changed the "condensor" for you. It would be impossible for anybody here to give you a usefull answer without knowing make, model of the a/c.

Sheryl, VERY grateful for your joining in, so far, I have only had a full abdomen ultrasound which shows nothing conclusive. I suspect ulcers because of severe pain, especially after heavy meals. The hernia I am more sure about, because when I bend over to put on socks, or bend a certain way in the shower to scrub my back, there is a definate protusion that pops out, and an excrutiating pain which, if I stay absolutely still for about 5 minutes, then it goes back in and the pain subsides somewhat. The doctors have told me (at both Queen Sirikit and Bangkok Pattaya Hospital) that my ulcers are probably due to gerd, and excess alcohol, although I stopped whiskey a couple years ago and now am only on beer. I wanted to go for MRI but doctors feel that may also not be required, to go for endoscopy / gastroscopy. I am seriously looking for a hospital where they have the expertise and equipment to do the endoscopy and simultaneously fix my tummy problems, and a friend doctor in Canada said they can do it with cauterization for the ulcers and possibly also resolve the hernia, as well as fundoplication to fix the gerd, otherwise another laparascopy operation can do the hernia(s). My difficulty is, I don't know which hospital I should go to, obviously, I would not like to pay astronomical rates, as I am self-financing this. Once again, thanks to Sheryl, and everybody else, who helped with their valuable advice and suggestions. Sorry for the lengthy post! Just to add, most of the hospitals I am contacting are replying with the answer that they only do endoscopy to look at things, and don't do any procedures simultaneously to fix things, especially cauterization, it seems to be unheard of, in Thailand hospitals, oddly!
