  1. Westernerstani not so popular these days; there are too many, they stay too long, and they come too often...
  2. Strangely, the, usually mentioned, length of overstay is missing... Either he just overstayed a day or two, or something else is missing.
  3. Interesting. According to Google: "Very rare: Fewer than 20,000 U.S. cases per year", but more than 1% of the population in Thailand?
  4. Must be desperate, despite the fact that the economy, officially, is growing fast, and almost everyone being employed...
  5. That's a different story; how many airlines fly that domestic route nowadays? I would presume that there is way more competition Bangkok to Phuket than Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.
  6. Don't know about Thai Lion Air, but if Air Asia advertises such prices, the final price, possibly, is much higher, flights are not possible to book, or they cancel the flight on short notice...
  7. Considering how "low" the official unemployment numbers are, one would think that Thailand has a huge demand for foreign labour. Perhaps those people from Myanmar could improve the tourism industry (hotels/hospitals/banking/sales/ costumer service, etc.) by providing staff that can actually speak English. (I've had my own experience going to a bank branch, where the only one who could understand and speak English was the security guard from Myanmar!) - Let the Thais do the construction work and fishing instead...
  8. Or 1 baht per tourist if they want 50 million... Leaving a 1-baht tip is an insult in Thailand, so maybe it's a Freudian sign...
  9. I'd like to know where they get the exchange rate from; 33.33 baht for a dollar... - Where can I buy dollars at that rate? Also, I don't buy this 'we take care of tourists' thing. No doubt, rather sooner than later they will use this scheme to justify an extra tourist tax.
  10. Got it; some dodgy app from Lithuania... Next they will ask all tourists to use Chinese and Russian payment apps. LOL
  11. Joined some awesome tours in Australia's Northern Territory and all the major cities in Oz, but also in New Zealand. Had a knowledgable tour guide for a great sightseeing tour in Hanoi.
  12. I talk to other expats, but mostly when I'm away on holiday. Very hard to make friends, as the pool of expats is quite small, but with a myriad of very different interests, lifestyles, and opinions. I usually avoid compatriotes. We have a saying back home: "Stay away from storm and wind, but especially from compatriots abroad!", which, from experience, I can confirm to be good advice, particularly in Thailand...
  13. I used my Thailand-issued Visa debit card internationally, e.g. Down Under without problems. The only place where it didn't work was joke-airline Air Asia's website. I would presume that Union Pay is the same.
  14. Interesting. That would explain why another office cannot transfer the extension stamp. So, technically, I should only get an exit stamp into my new passport when leaving by air.
  15. Well, okay. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Immigration office that originally issued the extension, said: "You don't live here anymore..." - Anyway, I'll just present both passports on my way out.
  16. Update: tried to transfer extension to new passport at Chaengwattana, but was told: "Cannot". Reason is that it was issued in another province.
  17. I did it many years ago; it wasn't complicated. However, I did it at the local branch of HSBC, which closed down years ago. If I were you, I wouldn't go to a small branch, but, if possible, the main branch, or a branch regularly dealing with foreign customers.
  18. No, I don't. That's why I put it in quotation marks.
  19. Considering that the inflation is, reportedly, "very low like one percent, or so", 4.9 percent doesn't seem so bad. On the other hand, of course, with "unemployment below 2 percent", you'd think that there's more pressure to raise employees' pay...
