It's not the thb amount, it's the fact that a value or money was even discussed. I've lived in Isaan and for all the bad things that come to mind, they never would have charged for this. Of course we would have taken care of the people but they would never have asked for money.

I'm not a big fan of PI myself. My ships took me there to Subic, was always a good place for fun. I wouldn't consider PI myself, but many expats do.

In PI an easy place to start is Angeles City or Subic Bay (Olongapo and Barrio Barretta) are only a taxi away. One of the oldest expat areas in PI.

In Pattaya I recently renewed. The place where you wait for making an appointment had chairs to sit. When you come back to get license testing done again plenty of seats. There was no need to stand for long periods of time.

70 yrs old age limit for government sounds about right. At a minimum the oldsters should take an annual cognitive test to show they're mentally fit. When I renew my US driver's license at age 72 I'll be required to show I'm fit.

We all know at least one guy who survives on a small pension and uses an agent. Would I want to be that guy? No. But I would rather do it here in Thailand than in the USA. I could make it work in the USA on a small monthly pension because that's the kind of man I am. I make do regardless the circumstance. At least living in a place like Patts you'd have things to see and do that don't cost alot. Used to be a poster here named CanarySun who claimed to live off 10,000K thb/mo. Had a fan room, cooked at home and walked around all day.
