Thailand Shuts 12 Marine Parks to Tackle Coral Bleaching Crisis
Lacessit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My argument would be both plastic pollution and global warming are equally serious problems. The 1987 Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances proved environmental problems can be fixed, provided enough nations can be signed up to the solution. The oceans have been the dumping ground for plastics and heat, ever since the Industrial Revolution and the invention of plastic. When our seas start to stink, time to move to another planet. I can't see Thailand signing up to any plastics protocol. IMO it's the most profligate user of plastics on the planet. -
Already had influenza shot in Hong Kong, get another in Thailand?
Lacessit replied to david_je's topic in Health and Medicine
"Southern strain" is used in places such as Australia, South America etc. Thailand is still north of the Equator, the northern strain vaccine would be used in Bangkok. Just have another flu shot next October. -
Trump Pledges to Cut Federal Funding for Schools with Vaccine Mandates
Lacessit replied to Social Media's topic in World News
No, I don't know that. AFAIK he has not confined his withdrawal of funding to COVID vaxxes. The statistics on COVID vaxxes say one is six times more likely to require an ICU or intubation if unvaccinated, compared to vaccinated patients. COVID is a respiratory virus, just like flu. I have flu and COVID boosters every year, and don't understand why people get their knickers in a twist. -

If you have not had your kid vaccinated for polio ( still active in Pakistan and Cambodia ) he/she is at serious risk of permanent paralysis. This is what an iron lung looks like. Do you really want him/her to spend the rest of their life there? -

If you served in the US military, the odds are pretty good you were vaccinated for everything. COVID vax is no different to any other vax. Only complete nutters prevent their kids from being vaccinated for polio, measles, typhus etc. -

Dalat has a very temperate climate, being up in the mountains. -
Not wearing a good helmet almost guarantees death, a vegetative state, or paraplegia with any serious collision, or fall from two wheels. https://profile.yru.ac.th/storage/journals/132bd35b372761b6aff849b3781b50b7.pdf Have it your way, just don't expect a visit from me when you are lying in a hospital bed contemplating the stupidity that put you there.

Why isn't Philippines the upcoming
Lacessit replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
From what I have seen posted by people who have actually been there, the main advantages are the people speak English, and long-term visas are a simple process. Against that, food is awful, and personal safety is a real issue. -
I guess living in the sticks has advantages, I assume you are referring to Bangkok traffic. Chiang Rai is OK, I would even shy away from traffic in Chiang Mai now.

I don't lane split, I stay left. Watching some of the people that do is enough to freeze my blood.

And another thing..Don't assume the rental you hire is roadworthy. Some rental agencies want your passport as security. Walk out. A copy and security of 2-3K baht is the norm. Be especially wary of intersections, Thais cut corners.

How do you know she heard you? I have found it's a good idea to stay out of blind spots to start with.

Unless you are here for the long haul, safer to take songthaews and tuk-tuks. Get a Thai scooter license before you rent, and invest in a decent helmet. You may think you have experience with two-wheelers. Thai traffic is different, assume everyone is trying to kill you.

Is Vietnam going to be next retirement
Lacessit replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
It will be if you get to my age. I pay for the alcohol buzz with trips to the toilet 5 or 6 times during the night. Have not had a drink for about a year, not missing it at all. Pot does nothing for me. I occasionally indulge in kratom or oxycodone. Sex is overrated, nowadays I would rather have a good dump. -

Poor is when one cannot afford private hospital care, and is at the mercy of the public hospital system in any country. -

Noisy Neighbors?
Lacessit replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
We had a group above us in the condo who came in at 2 am and kicked on until about 4 am. One of the guys had a guitar. His singing voice and the guitar were so far off-key it was torture to the ears. I suspect I was not the only person to complain to condo management. I think the Juristic person told their landlord water and electricity would be cut off if the noise continued. They were gone after about three weeks. -
I use a combination of Kellogg's All-Bran daily, and a sachet of Macrogol ( Polyethylene Glycol ) once or twice a week. The Macrogol gets thing moving without producing the runs. Great stuff.

Unveiling Media Bias The Truth Behind Anti-Israel Narratives
Lacessit replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The conflict will be ongoing as long as the various Arab groups and nations - Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, Al Qaeda, Syria, Iran etc. refuse to acknowledge Israel's right to exist. Hamas can hardly claim the high moral ground while it uses hospitals as bases, and the population of Gaza as human shields. -
Drink plenty of water. Plug up all the holes. Buy decent air purifiers that incorporate air quality monitors. Have them running 24/7. Seal yourself in, and wear a N95 mask when outdoors.

There is a restaurant in Chiang Mai called Le Coq D'Or. I have only experienced impeccable service and food there. It's well upmarket, about the same prices as a mid-range restaurant in Melbourne. I have gone there for over ten years, special occasions. IME restaurants are only as good as their managers. The worst service I have ever experienced was in the Yarra Valley and New Zealand, and on both occasions it was the managers.
