IMO the Mazda 2 is superior, mainly because it has a torque-style automatic gearbox, rather than the CVT in the Nissan. Apparently the Yaris has both options. Being able to swap into quasi-manual gears is an asset in hill driving. CVT's don't have the same flexibility.
