Best UK Bank whilst living in Thailand
The Fugitive replied to Karlo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
May be out of date information now but Santander customer services told me they permit a Thai address and will send renewed/replacement cards to Thailand. Halifax allowed a Thai address but wouldn't send renewed/repalcement cards to Thailand. -
No personal experience of Lenovo although my Thai family have had a couple of Lenovo laptops for some time without problem. My other and previous machines have been Acer. One continues to work after more than a decade and the other lasted for 15 years before it wouldn't boot. The problem wasn't the hard drive or the DVD optical drive so was almost certainly the motherboard.

Are you "all in" in your relationship?
The Fugitive replied to sidjameson's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I was at the point of being removed from my GP's panel. They had made several appointments at my local hospital for preventative medicine tests during my six years absence. Of course, I was unaware. When I failed to keep those appointments my GP rearranged them, more than once. There were letters behind my front door from both GP and hospital complaining and asking what I had against the principle of preventative medicine? Upon my last visit I saw a medical student at my GP's practice who had to keep leaving the room to ask questions. He/they decided upon a full blood count test (4 tubes). As the results were within the parameters of the analysis machine that was the end of the matter (or as far as they were prepared to go). -
Are you "all in" in your relationship?
The Fugitive replied to sidjameson's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Sorry about that. At what point of contact were you denied treatment? i.e. No longer registered with your GP, outpatient's appointment at your local hospital or 'walk-in' centre? I was abroad for six year's but remained registered with my GP. The check-in machine for outpatients appointments at my hospital asks the question; 'Have you been resident in the UK for the previous six months?'. Having said that, due to personal experiences, I would only use UK NHS if I was unable to afford treatment in Thailand. -
Are you "all in" in your relationship?
The Fugitive replied to sidjameson's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thai Mrs keeps reminding me that my house in UK is her inheritance. She knows if I don't make a will it will go to HM Government. Ideally, she wants me to sell it now. However, I view it as somewhere I can return to if we split up. Also, it would provide me with free accommodation if I ever needed to return to the UK for treatment under the NHS. -
calling the uk international pension centre.
The Fugitive replied to CFCjeff's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Very helpful information thank you. Alternatively, a Skype monthly subscription for unlimited landline calls to UK costs 1.70 GBP. Free trial for one month. The downside is that you don't have a number therefore they can't call you back. -
Totally legal way to activate Windows
The Fugitive replied to Beachcomber's topic in IT and Computers
Are we losing sight of basics though? When we buy a new computer, chances are it has Windows pre-installed thus we have paid to use it. Computers don't last forever, however, some of us will upgrade our OS during the life of their machine. Didn't MS offer free upgrades from W7 to W10 for a while? Some people will continue to run obsolete Windows OS and/or install Linux on their elderly machines. MS isn't losing out in that scenario. -
Yellow Fever inoculation over 70's
The Fugitive replied to Lancelot01's topic in Health and Medicine
Yellow Fever vaccination costs 82.00 GBP under UK National Health Service. Had mine when aged 53. No problems at all. As Richard has already advised, when entering Thailand they require sight of your Yellow Fever certificate when arriving from/via endemic countries. Good news is that one vaccination is now valid for life. Prior to 2016 you needed boosters every ten years. This applies retrospectively. -
Interesting, thank you. Recently, Air Asia cancelled the first leg of my two leg booking (both Air Asia internal flights). Automatically rebooked onto the next available flight. I was clearly warned that this later flight wouldn't connect in time for my second leg. I tried to change the second leg flight but the terms and conditions didn't allow that. My only option was to cancel the first leg and receive refund. Was your case similar?

Down to price. Agents offer discounts off hotel bookings when you book flights with them in the same transaction. Also, the other day I priced up an air fare using Skyscanner. The cheapest result was to book direct with airline. This I tried but the fare was unavailable. The new fare had risen by 20,000 baht. I then selected the next lowest price listed which was, of course, via an agent. That fare was still available for almost 20,000 less.

Most helpful thanks and sorry you wasted your money. I'm sure many of us wouldn't have known or thought about this.

Use both Skyscanner and Kayak for searching. Almost invariably, the cheapest price appears to be available on Trip.com. Where flights have been retimed or cancelled Trip.com has always provided plenty of notice, automatically rebooking onto the next available flight and offering the option to change or cancel. Last month AirAsia cancelled a flight. I opted to cancel. Trip.com refunded the full cost onto my card within 24 hours. Admittedly, a basic process where you wouldn't expect any difficulty.

Transit between the 2 BKK airports
The Fugitive replied to bubblegum's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Totally agree on taxi. Where flights are concerned most people would rather be at their departure airport sooner rather than later. -
Unfortunately, we stopped partway. I had a friend and neighbour (now deceased) who hadn't (or couldn't) accept that temperatures had been expressed in Celsius for decades. Having said that, most people I know in UK insist upon continuing to use feet/inches and stones/pounds for their own height and weight.

Refusing claims on the basis of undiagnosed preexisting conditions worries me. Someone suffers a heart attack, the hospital then discovers their arteries are 'furred up' with plaque (arteriosclerois). Could they argue that this didn't occur overnight and must have existed at the time you took out your policy? I have read that arteriosclerois can begin in your 20's. Mild cases usually don't have any symptoms.

The Death penalty your opinion
The Fugitive replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Agreed, if your DNA was found upon the victim/at the crime scene it would be more than difficult to prove innocence. There are at least two ways that could be achieved; 1) Planted by police, 2) Tampering with computer records to produce a match. -
The Death penalty your opinion
The Fugitive replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Agree. Also, the police cannot be trusted. They find someone who fits their profile. They work on obtaining confessions and collecting evidence. However, negative evidence (proving their suspect couldn't have done the crime) somehow never gets presented in court. -
Agree that Khon Kaen is very good for medical services (and dental too reading the reports although I have no direct experience). My mother-in-law received excellent attention at Queen Sirikit hospital. Mrs and myself at Khon Kaen Regional.
